It is very true.

Keep in mind I have 1.6 k:5838 d:5659
I got the original update.xbe from xodash.
In the s1916928 patch file, I used s2387968-s1916928 to patch my original (7968)
update.xbe.
In the s1916928 package I compared the properties of my update.xbe versus the s2387968.png file. they matched.

I guess what I am saying is there is support for k:5838 in that patch file.

I couldn't understand why I needed to downgrade, if my original was support to begin with. My guess is that it is just outdated information.
I posted in a couple other threads about using the original and nobody told me otherwise, so I trusted my instinct, and it works perfectly
I will be glad to help anyone that needs it.

damn, hoping it would be a breakthrough.

Nope, I didn't downgrade, just took original and patched it.
I am wondering which box's require the downgrade.

As far as I know, there are patches for 3 known update.xbe which can be 'transformed' into the one that 5713 supported. So there is no downgrade/upgrade needed as long as there is one copy of update.xbe that is one of the known update.xbe

If you don't have an update.xbe or it is some odd ball one, you either need to downgrade to the one with 4920(that is one of the known one) or upgrade to the latest one(that is also one of the known one) from MS.

So sorry guys, no big news. It remain as it is, there is only one working update.xbe for 5713+ which is unfortunately for USA/Canada only.

Just successfully did a K:5101... only thing that was diff is that I had to use the 6.0 fonts. Anyone else that can tell me what specific font packages they used for their specific kernel would be of great help. Id like to add them to the tut beginning so people know which fonts to get.

mine is also 5101 and both fonts work. However, I need fonts7 rather than 6 if I set the language to Chinese.

I still think it's a nice tut and maybe one that should be pinned in the tutorial section cuz there don't seem to be any UDE tuts (or maybe I just overlooked one so sorry if I did).
I am still missing one big thing though that I think should be mentioned somewhere on top of the tut and that is that this is only usable for NTSC users. (maybe it's in there allready but i overlooked that too cuz I'm just out of bed and my brains still aren't at their best).

Would be nice if it were pinned... I actually suggested it, but, since I'm a new guy, may take more than just me to get that done biggrin.gif

NTSC comment noted... Thank you

Question tho: will configmagic only work on ntsc-j boxes?

config magic will work on all xboxes,

Only ntsc boxes right? or pal included (which'll just suck for them since they wont be able to play anything local relative to their location)

config magic works on all region,

i got a pal xbox and it works on mine.

I am farely new xbox-scene and I have spent the last couple of days reading a lot of different approaches on modding a xbox.

I do not want to do soldering to my xbox!

My room mate moded his older xbox w/no soldering req'd and I'd like to do the same.

We have tried to hotswaping the hard drives by following the this tut
http://www.xbox-scen...ded-hotswap.php
w/no luck...we both think the problem lies in the making of the bootable cd...we could not find any detail instructions on making it work correctly...any suggestions on where to find more detailed instrustions???

I also tired the save game exploits method....using action replay...and borrowing a copy of MA, and 007...we also tried w/ SC which my room mate owns.  Only get get a Error 21 appear on the screen when we try w/MA, 007...we could not get the SC files to copy to the AC mem card.

I found "Complete 5713 Walkthrough Here, Tutorial Time!" tut today and it seemed a little promising b/c it had a couple step that we did not try, (nothing major just the restarting of the xbox - the obsiovs one ofcourse) and still no luck...I still rec an Error 21 msg.

I am in the process of trying to find a friend w/a M$ mem card to try the approach of sending the files on my room mates moded xbox...but we're still not sure if that will work...any suggestions or comments would be great.

Or your files aren't signed right.

Use EazSign in my signature to re-sign the files. It'll check all the signatures.

Anyhow I 'pinned' the topic.

Edit: Sign PBL NKPathcer or whatever your loading after the hack, should be all that needs signing.

I'm brick1234's roommate.  Got a bit of experience with soft-modding, but my box is a 1.1 so things are a little easier.

Anyhow.  What files need to be signed and what flags need to be enabled.  When we tried the 007/AUF method, I signed the evox default.xbe, but I most likely signed it with the -font option.  Should I have enabled other flags possibly?

...

If your using UDE you sign it with the -habibi option.
If your using a gamesvae hack you sign it with -habibi also.

There are no more flags...

Say we're using the MA hack, is the only file that I need to sign the default.xbe for evox?
