I've got a newer action replay and I've never had a problem with it screwing up files. Nice tutorial !

NO.  Kernel doesn't like the update.xbe which is for region 1(USA/Canada) only.

will it work if u run configmagic n change NTSC-J --> NTSC ?

There is report that "region 4" ->"region 1" works so I can't see why region 2 won't. I wish I can but as mine is a chipped one.

That's what I did (xbe region 4->xbe region 1) biggrin.gif.  Simply changing the video standard won't be enough.  You need to change the 'xbe region' (also in ConfigMagic). But ensure you've got a recovery strategy! just in case

nice tut.

here are some things you definetly DONT NEED:

1. Friends Modded Xbox
2. Memory Card
3. Copy of Mech Assault or 007 or Splinter Cell Game Save exploit (#xbins) (I will be using Mech Assault)
4. About 2 gigabytes free hard drive space (to create a backup of your Xbox)
5.  Slayers CD (#xbins)
6. Qwix to extract the Slayer CD (www.teamavalaunch.com/qwix/)

Anyone that can assist me in upgrading my HD to a 160gb Maxtor that will be compatible with my newly UDE2 modded box? I'll write another tutorial if someone is willing to help me biggrin.gif

ok then smart a55, only j/k

why did you need a Friends Modded  xbox when you had a Xbox Memory Card?

most people buy mega key x and aciton replay,

so firends xbox is NOT A DEFINETE NEED! pop.gif

Why spend the extra loot on accessories when he had the box and I had the mem card? Like I mentioned, thats how I did it and it only cost me the price of a used MA disc (5$) cool.gif

still, most people dont have a mem card before they start softmodding m8,

no mean to offend you or anything but if you look in the eyes of a n00b, "you definetly need a modded xbox from a friend" they will back off straight away.

just making the tut n00b proog

I'll give you that much, was only by chance that I decided to buy one caus E/B was selling them for 5$ a pop and I figured I'd need one at some point ::shrugs::

And I also atempted to write the tutorial with several modding options (processes / things used) but that would have just complicated the tutorial and would have required me to have tried using those other methods... So I didn't bother...
If it were up to me, I'd softmod every version xbox and write a tutorial specific to the general kernel version/range. Which is actually a project I'm think about undertaking with a friend. If you have a softmod tutorial specific to a kernal/version PM me and I'll gladly accept it and give you full credit for it where ever it ends up.

Uh, people have done that before - don't think it needs another tutorial.

Edit: Or you could do it with Xbhdm, dunno if there's a good walkthrough for a hard drive upgrade and UDE install...
