I have a 1.6 Halo xbox that I wanted to soft-mod. I already have a chipped xbox and had an idea I wanted to try out. I wanted to see if anyone here had tried it before or knows for a fact that it wont work. Here is what I was thinking of doing...
I wanted to put a 120GB HDD in my chipped xbox and install everything from the Slayer's 2.5 FINAL cd. Then apply all the required files/hacks/softmods to the drive to get it to work on a 1.6 xbox. Then do a 2 xbox hotswap to lock the new drive.
Does any one see flaw in this or is this method a viable option??
Any thoughts on this would be most welcome. |
Ugh..... slayers.
Use the chipped Xbox to format and install whatever apps you want (although installing them manually is a better option IMO, so you can just get the latest versions and configure anything you need to configure. It's not that hard either). You can hotswap, but I'd take the safer route and use Xbox HDM.
If you do decide to use XboxHDM instead of hotswapping, you'll have to load up a hacked gamesave on the 1.6, then run the backup function in evox. Ftp into your Xbox and retrieve the backup folder, which should have your eeprom.bin and 4 or 5 other files.
Now on the chipped Xbox, install the UDE2 according to this guide.
After that's done, create and XboxHDM boot CD (be sure to put your eeprom.bin file in the eeprom folder) and boot your PC up with the XboxHDM CD in and the Xbox HDD in the primary master IDE connection.
When XboxHDM loads up on your comp, select option 3, and type "lockhd -a" (without the quotes) and it should lock the 120GB HDD with the password from your eeprom.
Put the HDD in your 1.6 Xbox and if it boots evox, or whatever you installed as your default dash, then everything went perfectly.
If it doesn't boot up, you probably messed up somewhere along the way. Your best bet would be to try and install the UDE2 exploit on the stock HDD and make sure it works. Ftp the exploited files to your comp and create another XboxHDM CD, but this time, put the contents of the C drive in the C folder, and the default.xbe from your E drive, in the E folder. Then make your ISO. Note: If you want your gamesaves and custom soundtracks, or whatever other important data may be on your E drive, then you can just put the entire contents of the E drive (or just the files you want) in the E folder instead of just the default.xbe
