« Reply #315 on: September 16, 2004, 01:51:00 PM »

I just scanned my Xbox HDD for MS signed exploitable? files.
But the scan program just scans all partitions, except it don't scan partition F??? Why not? there are almost all of my installed programs....

How could i manage that to do (io have only a controller, not a keyboard for input)

LDOTS must not have programmed in that partition. Ask him to throw that in the app for ya or see if it scans it when you run it from /f/

The ldot's scan program was developed to locate HDD flagged XBEs that may have been downloaded from XBOX!Live.  Since retail XBOXs have no F: or G: drives, XBOX!Live couldn't have placed any files there.

Idiots:

Question:
Why does you're .xbe scanner don't scan on HDD drive F: and G:??

I started it for looking for exploitable .xbe's, it scans all standard xbox partitions; except F: and G:???

Because i and some of my friends made much game backups to partition F: or G:, so maybe there is an exploitable file too? possibley the wanted UDE3 PAL .xbe hack

QUOTE (ldots @ Sep 17 2004, 10:05 AM)
We wanted to find exploitable xbe's that run from the HDD (have a certain media flag in the xbe header). That would mean files that were most likely not found on game DVD's but was put on the HDD by Xbox Live. Live means running a retail bios, hence no F: and G: drives.

uhh.gif

On different Live enabled DVD's are ALWAYS update.xbe and dashonline.xbe.
MS forces gameproducers, which want to use XboxLive that they also PUT those files on DVD.

The reason behind this is (I guess), that XboxLive wasn't available due to lauchjing of Xbox. almost 1,5 years after the first boxes were sold, this started in the US.

So basicly the first Dashboards didn't have support for Live. It wasn't there.
Games came with this support, but to make sure every Xbox could make use of Live; the dash must be updated to a good working version.

But....., If you don't have a dhash wich supports online updating.... even worse, has bugs to connect online trough www...., then old xboxes never could use live!
So the games are supllied with those dashboards, so that updating is always possible when you start a game and don't have connection to Live.

and yes; I found already an update.xbe dash on a retail DVD (copied to E:\), WITH the flag load_from_hdd and Load_from_dvd!

So, Idiots, please, please make a new version that scans the whole HDD, all partitions; including F: and G:

Be careful here.
For UDE, we were hunting for XBEs with the HDD media type set, and the original M$ signature.

xbedump and dvd2xbox are both known to change the allowed media types field on the XBE files (but by doing so break the M$ signature we're after).  This fact caused a few false alarms in the past.

ok, i put nkpatcher into e:\ renamed to default.xbe and evox into c:\ , still hanging at the loading screen. I put pblmetoo into e:\ renamed to default.xbe and without evox in c:\ the screen goes out (like the cfg file sais it should for the m8 bios to load) at this point i can put in any backup and it works fine. However I cant figure out how to get evox to load with it, if i put evox into c:\ then the it hangs at the loading screen again.

Ok i got it working both ways, it was my evoxdash.xbe , i pulled one off my xbox and was using it. As I was looking through some of my install files i noticed an evoxdash.xbe that was only 680kb and mine was 1080kb, used the 680 and everything worked fine. I havent tried to look yet but does anyone have an idea why the xboxdash.xbe on my xbox is so much larger than the original? I used the same install files for mine as all the others, probably not an evox xbe that i accidently renamed or one of a different version that was conflicting. Not sure, anyways Cya round.

@John Hoek, regarding your (WITH the flag load_from_hdd and Load_from_dvd!) discovery: I guess you didn't see this request for one of the details eh.
QUOTE (eh. @ Sep 18 2004, 08:27 AM)
@John Hoek: perform `xbedump update.xbe -dc` on the original (or your earliest backup of it) and if the "Allowed media types" isn't 0x00000002 then please post its value here eh. beerchug.gif

Was the value 0x00000207; was it this one eh? sleep.gif
