Just a quick question.  This does not apply to me personally, as I have opened my XBox  too many times to count.  However, has anyone here who has done a pure softmod tried to redeem their warranty?

when u have a softmod, you dont have a warranty, but if you delete all the softmod files to bring back to virgin state, then you have a warranty.

From what I can gather, there is no clear difference in the warranty between software and hardware modifcation.  The clause dealing with exceptions, in section 3, states that any Tampering or Modification voids the warranty.  So, technically, even restoring it to a virgin state voids the warranty.

However, as much appreciated as the post was, my original question remains unanswered.  Has anyone tried redeeming their warranty, and been denied because of software modification?

it's true that any modification voids the waranty so basically any of us softmodders don't have waranty anymore. The thing about softmods however is that you sometimes can restore what you have changed on the xbox and don't leave any traces so nobody would know the waranty was broken one time.

correct,

but i belive any hd leave traces, even formateed. so if they wanted to, they could probally find some files.

I bought a 3 year extended warranty for $50...

Am I stupid? Hell no! So far I've gone through 4 XBox'es (First the hard drive crashed, next two had bad Thompson DVD's so I returned them, fourth was a refurbished unit that was already bad).

First three retailed at $306.16 CAD each, so $918.48 there, plus $263.92 for the fourth after the price was discounted...

If it wasn't for buying that warranty I would've spent over $1182.40 on the new Xbox'es. Lol, not my problem, its FutureShop's now.
