Oke, Just tried your idea..

At Ndure script step 2/3 i got a slightly different error:
cp: write error: no space left
Cannot create directory /xbox/hack/xodash No Space Left

Get this error just after it backs up C to shadowc,

Everything else seemed fine, Then i got to locking HD step..xboxhdm told me the drive on primary master is frozen, So i disabled auto detection (as it asked) copied the HD Locking key and manually entered it.. xboxhd said that was a success..

Attempted to load the HDD in the xbox and still got "Call customer service" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I hope someone can help me out with this!!!
When I first started modding my xbox's I would alway use a dell dimension PC with a IDE port on the motherboard and used NDURE hot-swap trick.
Now, all new PCs that are out now has a SATA port, same with the one Im using at home and work.
Now I have a softmodded xbox(1.6b) Iv have for years with a 500gb HD and I have one in  my bedroom with the stock HD in it running XBMC. But I would like to upgrade the HD in the bedroom to 120gb.
I cant remember were I saw this, there is a way to soft-mod your xbox with out a PC. Xbox to Xbox , I guess I unplug the CD drive and put the new 120gb hard-drive in and clone it. Not sure if thats right, and with what App I would use.

Does anyone know how or a TUT on how to do this??
Does the HD have to be the same size?   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

Use chimp or lxhdm. Have a look here for a summary of the available methods for upgrading hard disks on softmod Xboxes, with links.

I wasn't able to properly run Xboxhdm 1.9 + Ndure 3.0. I got always "This machine is no xbox.", I tried several hotswap methods, no success.
Finally I just made Error 12 (unplugged xbox dvd) + hotswap and normally boot up windows, then just copy few files according this guide

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...p;#entry4500437

and it works perfectly..

Hi there!

Followed this forum for a long time and this is the first time I've ever posted, but I've lurked and read for atleast a month or two before I actually attempted any soft modding.

Anyway,  I used xboxhdm 1.9 and the Ndure 3.0 Softmod, Hotswapped after error 13, and it was all gravy, no problems, booted into UnleashX, everything worked peachy, but the lack of space was annoying.

Got myself a 200 Gig Seagate, which according to the lockDB, is lockable, so I went about backing up the E:/ Drive and The C:/ Drive and everything was fine, but I accidentally put them in the wrong folder in the xboxhdm sad.gif

So,  when I used the xboxhd tool,  I didn't install the dashboard or anything, and I locked the HD using my eeprom that I backed up off the HDD, and I popped it into my xbox.

Error Code 21 sad.gif

Did a little bit of reading, error code 21 during a HDD Upgrade is usually caused by bad files or mis-copied files, so I figured I'd just start over, simple enough.

Remade my xboxhdm ISO, with the eeprom still in the folder, but now, I cannot use the Linux Unlocker to unlock my HD.

It keeps telling me no drive connected, but, when I boot into my bios, my computer sees it in the IDE List, connected to primary master.

Anyone want to help me out?

To raziel45:

Try to disable the hdd auto detection in your bios setup.
If that doesn't help or if the option doesn't exist in your bios, try to unlock the harddisk with another pc.

You could also try to connect the harddisk after the pc is booted. (a bit like a hotswap.)

Some biosses give problems when a connected harddisk is locked.

To quartapound:

Xboxhdm should work fine with a ps2 keyboard. I don't even know if it works with an usb keyboard, unless you can enable legacy keyboard support in the pc bios.

regards.

I didnt think that should have been the problem.

The cd boots fine, and I can make the first selection (1-4) and choose 1, or 2 (for vga or text) to load linux... (i need xbrowser)

after linux finished loading, the keyboard becomes competely unresponsive (can't type xbrowser)

Any help would be greatly appreciated... I'm trying to hotswap because I can't get the xbox to boot the evox disk, gone through more CDRW's than I know what to do with

As you probably know, the xplorer360 windows program is an alternative to browse fatx formatted xbox drives.

If your bios supports usb legacy keyboards, you could try an usb one, but I doubt it will be an improvement.

Xboxhdm is already a couple of years old, and sometimes has problems with modern mobo's. It's the first time I hear of a keyboard no longer functionning.

regards.

Thanks for your fast reply, kingroach!

Very nice to know that my research wasn't for nothing  :D
I'm aware of xbox only being able to handle IDE drives. Transcend manufactures SSDs with 44pin IDE interfaces. You only need to plug in a mounting adapter. I'm positive that xbox will be able to handle it since the SSD will behave just like a regular IDE drive.
I just wanted to make sure that the boot cd will recognize an unmodified HD and be able to to partition, format and lock it.

I think I'll try this out on weekend, I'll let you know wether it was successful.

Thanks for the help!

Best regards.

Hi all!

I've tried to replace my xbox HD yesterday. The outcome is horrible at best and my frustration is beyond words.
Here's what I did: I plugged my SDD in my PC and booted the linux CD. Partitioning and formatting went well, copying the backup of my original drive also returned no errors. I then locked the SDD with the key from the eeprom.bin (luckily, the SDD turned out to be lockable, I already cheered at that point, thinking that to be the biggest problem I would encounter), after I had to resolve the already known issue with the HD being frozen, then plugged it in my xbox. Error code 8: no HD found.

Since I was quite sure that I did everything right I wasn't willing to give up already. So I repeated the whole operation. This time, the xbox at least tried to boot, but then froze just between showing the xbox logo and the microsoft writing.
I guessed that something with burning the boot cd must have gone wrong, especially with the C folder. So I tried the cloning option. This took like forever just like the warning said.
After it finished, I locked the SSD again and reput it in my xbox.

This time, the xbox bootet my dashboard, everything looked fine. It took some time to load though, but that changed after the loading was finished. After that, everything was very responsive and loaded lightning fast.
It was a wonderful moment. Just to make sure everything was at place I told the box to reboot.
You can't imagine how big my shock was when it returned error code 8 again ever since.

I don't dare to lock my original HD again to see if I f***** that up as well right now.
Please, if anyone has a clue what could have gone wrong, I'd really appreciate the help. I haven't got the slightest idea why it doesn't recognize the SDD any more after everything worked fine for one glorious moment.

Thanks for any considerations.
