Pbl-lite. The Fast Barebones Version.
« Reply #30 on: July 06, 2004, 10:44:00 AM »

Hey, just a question for you all, I'm sure you can help...

I'm using the UDE from ldots' xboxhdm package.  I have a pbl folder in E, but there's no default.xbe... however, there's a pbl.xbe.  Should I delete pbl.xbe, copy over default.xbe from the archive, then copy the bios out of Bioses, and leave my original boot.cfg?  And keep them in the pbl directory?

Thanks guys, much appreciated,

I would :
1) rename E:\pbl\pbl.xbe to E:\pbl\pbl.xbe.141
2) copy default.xbe from root post to E:\pbl\pbl.xbe
3) Copy bios from E.\pbl\Bioses to E:\pbl\
4) Leave boot.cfg

Before doing this I would however make a E:\test directory and put PBL-Lite in there. Then test it from here before using it as your default bios loader.

BTW. Very soon I will update the ude for xboxhdm package giving it pretty much the same install options as the memcard installer. That is : MXM, Evox, PBL 1.4.1, nkpatcher, PBL Lite.

Worked wonderfully!  I'm impressed by the speed of this... amazing.  Thanks, yet again!

Your F:\ is safe. The exploits have nothing to do with that drive.

After your exploit is installed, put the UnleashX files in e:\Dashboard after removing the MXM ones.

has anyone actually found why games such as crimson skies are not booting using pbl also could you go into detail on how you compiled pbl i know you used the freexdk but could you please go a little more in depth on how you compiled it cause i was looking over the yoshihiro source and i want to play around with it a little myself

I have personally not looked into the PBL Crimson Skies problems. I have personally never had any problems with PBL and any of the games I have on HDD.

When using PBL 1.4.1 I used freexdk to compile it. The official 1.3 was compiled without freexdk. In any case you need a linux box if you want to compile PBL as it is. In that case it takes a bit of adjustment of the Makefile to point to your copy of freexdk etc.

But I have one request from you to make your package perfect for xboxhdm.
Could you please have the installer read the eeprom from floppy disc instead of the cd itself? For I mod many boxes and it would save placing a new eeprom.bin on many cds if I could have the installer read it from a flopy disc instead. That would make this perfect man! beerchug.gif
Thanks for all your great work, keep it up!

You can expect an update to xboxhdm including this feature later today or tomorrow. The UDE package for xboxhdm will also be updated - to be in sync with the memcard package.

Speed-wise ... it doesn't seem much faster than 1.4.1 in debug with timeout=0.  But at least i don't get the chicken scratch while booting!

[edit] I take that back, after testing it a bit more, this lite version is quite a bit faster!  beerchug.gif

Naa - just a regular guy who likes to mod and hack things. Truth is xboxhdm and the UDE packages took a lot more time to make than this.

Get the PBL-Lite package from 'the usual places' if you cant get your own to work.
Keep in mind that it's not nessecarilly a boot.cfg problem...
