hmmm...is there any way to merge nkpatcher and pbl together?

You mean teach nkpatcher to load a BIOS? I don't know anything about it... I really wish someone would tell me why PBL doesn't work with 5530 or where it stops but apparently nobody knows? lol.. I'll do a search. If it was possible I think it already would have been done.

Hmm. I guess the kernel just prevents it. Not sure how.

no..it runs the unsigned xbes on the hd...but make it so it can run the xbes off of a dvd..

I think pbl wont work on a newer kernel because the debug functions wont work..

just a guess...but i did read this somewhere....

Results:
As noted above, beta 3 and ldots pbl work great with s-video. No screen corruption at all. Just a black screen, then dead video (blue on mine TV), then dash. Outstanding!

This on the official MS advanced av pack svideo (ntsc)

smile.gif but tried to remove it, and that gave no difference with composite and scart. Oh, well put it back in your version too biggrin.gif

I just tried you beta 4. Works fine, and the MethodL makes it more or less identical to my version. Only difference is the litte text block in the beginning.

I will include my version in the next release of the memcard UDE installer as an alternative to PBL 1.4.1 and nkpatcher. But I guess the non-memcard package users would like these modified PBL's packaged also. How about making a joint package including yours and my version. I was thinking :
my version : PBL-lite.xbe
your version : PBL-fat.xbe
No point in making two seperate packages, and I could imagine people would like both alternatives. My version as the really barebones version, yours with more config options. What do you think ?

Edit : Did you remove your last message  laugh.gif

This is starting to deserved to be a sticker. It might be full up there, but still, this is really interesting.

EDIT: and I think you should write clearly in the first post what it really can do. Or maybe that's too early?

ldots...

You are the penguin!!!!

Call me tux  laugh.gif

Glad to hear Raebis has no screen corruption with PBL-Lite smile.gif

Also pleased to hear that you like the idea of a package - no hurry though! I will just include my version in the next UDE installer.

About the package. Since yours is mainly built on 1.4.1 and will be the 'slightly chubby' version tongue.gif, I would think it would be a good idea to keep the USB as an option, but being able to switch it off in boot.cfg. Your version would be the really configurable one. What's another 40 kb anyway?

@ gronne
I guess a package will include a proper description, at least for Tomilius' version. Still a bit early though...

works fine with MethodL false ( gust goes black TV savs NO SYNC then evox )
something interesting has happened from the first bata 4
and new just downloaded with MethodL true
would get the same folded over top of screen picture with flicker the whole time
(same as orig PBL 1.4.X but with no text)
now with new ver i get a full screen no flicker,
it now has a top band of colored confedi for 1 sec then the screen fills with
the bottom of screen filled with colored confedi with about 20% band of black
between them 1/3 down from the top for 2 sec  then evox
i am using a Hi Def AV pack on a 1.0 xbox
your ver boots from evox at(480p) loaded from orig PBL 1.4.1

Houston, we have compile. It's messy, but it's still a compile ...

Green corruption so far.

CODE
I2CTransmitWord(0x10, 0x1901); // no reset on eject

I wonder if that's one of those things that only works while the XBE is running though. It probably is.

CODE
       // clear the Video Ram
   memset((void *)FRAMEBUFFER_START,0x00,0x400000);

I pulled that into the new BootVga (cromwell doesn't have it) and it causes a crash... sad.gif Unless it's the setLED that's causing the crash, lol, which I doubt because it set 'red' just fine.

Hmmph. Maybe I'd better see if there's anything before the "clear the Video Ram" that should be pulled in. It's probably fb_clear() that's causing the crashes because I don't think cromwell has that either.

Okay, it's pretty messy and I don't really want to waste any more time on it so...

I've uploaded the source that uses cromwell.

http://members.lycos...essyh/files/pbl

Download pbl-cromwell-source.zip or browse through it at:

http://members.lycos...cromwell-source

It needs work. Anyone who wants to can do it - I think I'm done working on it though since with MethodL it might not be necessary.

Upload done.

CLARIFICATION FOR LIGHT READERS: I'm still working on the project! Just not on the cromwell version right now.

ohmy.gif) and... green screen corruption. But then the screen corruption clears... but the bios won't load. I'll get to the bottom of it ... I hope.

I think the green screen corruption is actually a jumbled MS logo... I also think that if we were to get PBL to use a different resolution, it wouldn't be jumbled, and we could have what everyone wanted... a transparent PBL... sort of anyway.

For me, the green screen corruption is actually started when the framebuffer is started, or here:

CODE
MMIO_H_OUT32 (riva.PCRTC, 0, 0x800, pcurrentvideomodedetails->m_dwFrameBufferStart);

Before then, it's just the typical MS logo.

Looks like I was bringing us back to square one. Stopping the framebuffer initialization  just puts the corruption on top of the MS logo. ... lol. Hmm - working on it...

Looking more closely, it doesn't look like it's the resolution that needs to be changed.

I've tried my old build with the 1.3 video and it doesn't have this screen corruption. I guess there's still some file I haven't replaced? But I've compared BootVgaInitializationKernelNG and it's the same as the PBL 1.3 one ...
