Idots what does the dual boot serve other than the ude install/uninstall/hard drive back ups and other hard drive functions.

That's the purpose it serves smile.gif An important one in my opinion, as it serves as a backdoor.
When you boot with the tray open PBL is not loaded so everything you want to run in this state has to be habibi signed. That's why you get error 21. You could set up your system to boot to avalaunch with the tray open by simply replacing MXM with a habibi signed avalaunch. To get a dual-dash boot in the modded state (PBL loaded, tray-closed) I would suggest that you make a copy of the bios used by PBL (E:\pbl\Bioses\xboxrom.bin) to you PC and edit it with xbtool to boot avalaunch as the default dash (f.ex E:\avalaunch\default.xbe). Then upload it to the PBL Bioses folder (with a different name). When you boot with the tray closed and reach the PBL text screen, hit A to select the alternate bios and Avalaunch should load.

ltools 1.4 + update.xbe = 5mb,

i have still yet to see a xbox mem card less than 8mb,

Please dont add mxm as default dash in next packages to save space.

As space does not need to be saved....

I actually more or less had my mind set on removing Evox  laugh.gif

Any particual reason you would prefer Evox? I dont think Evox has more options than MXM. On the contrary MXM has some amazing scripting capabilities, cool looking skins and since the latest release a fully functional ftp-server.

If a lot of users prefer Evox maybe I should give people the choice between Evox and MXM in the installer...

yeah i know mxm has a truck load more features,

but evox loads much faster than mxm...

I think giving users a choice between mxm and evox is good!

OK - based on adil786's request that's how it's gonna be biggrin.gif

I've put in these changes :
- Tray open still reaches the MXM menu, with the simple black'n'gray skin. Suits the purpose. But if the user chooses MXM as the default dash I would like to include a better looking skin. Any candidates?
- When running the install option, the user has to choose between PBL and nkpatcher as the Bios "loader" with the controller (green button -> PBL, blue -> nkpatcher). Welcome 5530 owners biggrin.gif
- After this the user chooses between MXM (green button) and Evox (blue) button.
- If you want to switch - rerun the installation. You would loose any changes you did to PBL, Evox , MXM,... when re-installing though.

Dont think these changes deserve a new release. I would also like to see if more changes are made to the nkpatcher.

Edit : Forgot to mention, I removed the "sh: cannot access tty : Job-control turned off" output since that seemed to confuse people smile.gif

ldots, after I install the hack, everytime my xbox should boot up the hacked evox dashboard instead of m$ dash by default right?

When I run Appz and backup games, does those need to be signed? I heard games need to be signed, if so, how? Where do I find the tools to sign it and how do I sign it?

Slayers is an installer disc capable of preparing xbox HDD's (if you have a modchip/TSOP flash) and install a number of apps etc. It includes the 4920 M$ dashboard and all the files that goes with it, including the update.xbe that this package needs.

Yes, your xbox will boot to Evox directly, or to the ltools menu if the tray is open. With this package you do not need to sign the apps/backups you add yourself since PBL is used to load a hacked bios in the xbox memory.

Be sure your kernel supports this package before attempting an install (Must be below 5530. If you have 5530, wait till I make the next release).

You could, if your kernel allows it (is below version 5713).
But for the UDE hack (used in this package) you dont need to downgrade. You only need the 4920 update.xbe file from Slayers

Yeah, but some people might want to add a second bios in which case a zero timeout is not ideal...

How about a PBL-configure menu in which you choose a small or zero timeout :
Configure PBL :
- Small timeout (500 ms)
- zero timeout

Also, i hope you dont mind me asking, is there/will there be a way to run a backup game from boot up?

There is a way, but I wouldn't recommend it.
The hack needs to tricker to run unsigned code. Therefore the update.xbe need to load to tricker the hacked fonts and pbl. If you get one of the first versions of Rmenhals fonts they dont check for an unset clock. Therefore if you were to let your xbox loose time by leaving it unplugged, the retail bios would always try to boot C:\xboxdash.xbe (which is the update.xbe) on boot. This would tricker the fonts and thereafter PBL. If the bios that PBL loads checks for a D:\default.xbe (most bioses do), the backup would boot.

The danger is that if you files on the HDD or the HDD itself get corrupted somehow, you wouldn't even be able to boot a retail game this way.

An alternative was to modify the existing fonts for check for D:\habibi_default.xbe before PBL is loaded. That would mean that you would have to add an habibi signed default.xbe to the backup before burning it, and habibi sign every other xbe,xip that the game uses.

I would say it's worth waiting the 5 secs. it takes to load PBL smile.gif

It does sound like everything installed correctly. If you want to make sure you can run the mini-linux, then make a telnet connection from a DOS prompt (simply run : telnet 192.168.0.3) and then execute :
ls /mnt/C   and
ls /mnt/E
and post the output.

But I dont think PBL is the problem. It sounds more like the UDE doesnt tricker - the font doesnt do its job. Be sure to try and to power on from a shutdown xbox - not just a warm reboot.

Other than that it could be you have one of those rare xbox's where the generic font from Rmenhal doesn't work. Since the package worked you should have ftp access, so try the following :
-Get the Iceows archiver
-Paste the code from below to a texteditor (notepad)
-Save the files as bert-ateĀ-ernie.b64
-extract it (twice) with Iceows.
-Upload it to your xbox (C:\bert-ate-ernie.xtf) thereby replacing the old font.

Please report back if this 'kernel-specific' font worked.
CODE
begin 644 bert-ate-ernie.xtf.bz2

`
end

Thanks you for your fast response! Below is the result after telnet:
#ls /mnt/C
Audio                    msdash.xbe      xboxdashdata.1012a700
bert-ate-ernie.xtf   xboxdash.bak   xodash
dualboot.xbe         xboxdash.save  xtf_backup
f0nts
#ls /mnt/E
CACHE        UDATA            pbl
Dashboard   backup_linux   tdata

I extracted your provided font and replace the original one on the xbox. But it still did not wok and stopped booting at M$ logo.

There's no xboxdash.xbe. You just didn't notice to type it here?

Here's some test fonts to try. Try them in succession starting from 1000, then 2000 etc. Hopefully one of them works.

Someone mentioned in the UDE thread that changing the language made it hang on the boot. What language setting do you have in the dashboard?
