It's OK tongue.gif
In the tut. it's says x's because the number (folder names) are different between the games (MA,SC,007).

Just put update.xbe in the files folder as it is. No compression.

ldots:
Great package. Installed very smoothly. After install, booted tray open, ftp'd pbl 1.3.5i for my s-video, then changed the dash files to MXM (personal preference. Great evox skin, btw)
I Love the open tray-to-gamesave, that's awesome.
Running on dash 5659, with \xodash named \xodash_ to eliminate the LIVE tab in the MS dash. Hard to launch live with no tab, eh?

Again, great package, having finally had a few minutes to actually get it running tongue.gif

Everything is OK! Linux is running on your xbox, but for you to use it you would have to connect the your xbox with a telnet connection from a DOS prompt. I can understand your curiosity, but for maintaining the UDE installation you can just use the option in the MXM (ltools) menu.

ldots,

I'm currently using v1.3 of your package.
LOOOOOOVE IT, BTW!
With the MXM installer its very reminicent of Morden's old packages.

Anyways,
With each package I've been adding my update.xbe to the .zip before transfering it over to my memory card so I don't need to muck around with changing network settings and FTPing it in.
I got your v1.4 package today and did the same, but I noticed the .zip file w/ update.xbe is now a little over 5Mb.  Is this going to be too big for my standard memory card when I get home?  If so, is there a way I can trim it down so it will all fit with the update.xbe?

Thanks again for your OUTSTANDING work!
(props to the 5 or 6 other major contributors too!) beerchug.gif

P.S. Does your package include nkpatcher for 5530 that I've been reading so much about?

a friend of mine put an older exploit on my memory card, this allows me to use ftp to xbox. I can ftp the package files to xbox but how do I execute them?

I might be easier to put the file onto memory card and execute them from the game exploit, but I don't know how to do that.

any help is appreciated.

I failed after the following steps.
(Kernel: 5101, Dsh: 5659, Version: 1.4 w/ Focus Chip.)

1) Download ltools_007_v1.4, and use 007 gamesave to set up ftp first.
2) Use Slayer's CD to downgrade the dash to 4920 (delete whole C: and copy new C: from Slayer's).
3) Then copy UDATA from ltools_007_v1.4 into E: and copy update.xbe from Slayer's to E:\UDATA\4541000d\000000000000\files
4) Use 007 to boot, and load gamesave from hard drive. It worked fine and I can enter the graphical menu. Then install UDE, and after auto-backup, it has been done. But when I restarted the Xbox w/o 007 game disk, the Xbox stopped at the "Xbox - MS" logo and could not boot further.
So I guess PBL did not work at all in my case. How can I fix this problem?
Btw: before using this package, I also tried the standard UDE metho manually following the tutorials but could not make it work.

I guess if you have a 8Mb memcard it should fit. If you want to trim it down I would suggest not adding the update.xbe, but ftp'ing this in after the package is installed.
I think I might remove Evox and use MXM instead (as this is already used for the ltools menu). That would save 1MB.

In the near future I will also add the nkpatcher, but will wait a bit to see more test results.

Thank you so much ldots for this memcard installer! Anyway, I was curious about the following behavior: when I start the X-Box in the closed tray position with a backed up game in the drive I get Error 21 and FRAG. However, when I start an empty X-Box in the closed position everything boots to EvoX perfectly. Is this by design or just an anomaly in my box? If it is, can I fix it?

Some people say they have been running backups from DVD on boot with the UDE. I have never done this personaly, but will get error 21 as you describe. The UDE is not active until the update.xbe (renamed) is loaded and the hacked font tricker, so the only way I see that one could boot from a backup is if your clock is not set. This will force the bios to load xboxdash.xbe (update.xbe) which will tricker the hack -> PBL -> hacked bios -> D:\default.xbe
So I believe you should boot up the xbox and let the hacked bios load before you insert the backup.

Slayers is an xiso. Get a tool like qwix which will extract the xiso filesystem.

Btw: before using this package, I also tried the standard UDE metho manually following the tutorials but could not make it work.

It does sound like everything installed correctly. If you want to make sure you can run the mini-linux, then make a telnet connection from a DOS prompt (simply run : telnet 192.168.0.3) and then execute :
ls /mnt/C   and
ls /mnt/E
and post the output.

But I dont think PBL is the problem. It sounds more like the UDE doesnt tricker - the font doesnt do its job. Be sure to try and to power on from a shutdown xbox - not just a warm reboot.

Other than that it could be you have one of those rare xbox's where the generic font from Rmenhal doesn't work. Since the package worked you should have ftp access, so try the following :
-Get the Iceows archiver
-Paste the code from below to a texteditor (notepad)
-Save the files as bert-ateĀ-ernie.b64
-extract it (twice) with Iceows.
-Upload it to your xbox (C:\bert-ate-ernie.xtf) thereby replacing the old font.

Please report back if this 'kernel-specific' font worked.

Idots what does the dual boot serve other than the ude install/uninstall/hard drive back ups and other hard drive functions.  Could you boot avalaunch from the dashboard menu selection in mxm if so how do I do this. I would like to run avalauch when tray is open and evox when closed or the oppsite way.  Can you even run a game when tray is open so far all iI get is error 21?
