I have a 1.6 xbox with a bad eeprom. I read that it is possible to repair a bad eeprom with xtool if I flash my mod with cromwell and FTP my backed up eeprom to the xbox. I read that all I needed was to burn all the files in the UDE's linux folder to a cd with a dummy50mb file but when I try to boot to the CD I get.
"...ing linuxbootcfg from CD..."
"...from CD failed"
"...ck that linuxbootcfg exicts"
I have tried a samsung, phillips and even a PC DVD rom with CDR, CDRW, DVD+RW and all give me the same message. What am I doing wrong?
I know the DVD drives work cos I installed xebian on another drive and it is going fine.
Is there somewhere I can get the xtool to fix my eeprom from the xebian installation?

forget the last entry. I FTPed the files to another xbox HDD, put it in the xbox with the bad eeprom and fixed it.

how do I transfer the file to my xbox through ftp? I already have a connection for when i backup games. but what drive do i put it in?

How old is your Mech Assault game? They fixed the exploit in the game on later versions so you can't run linux through the game save hack. Perhaps you can get a used older version of the game and try again

If I'm reading this correctly you have the Itools installer and don't know what to do with it. If thats the case copy the installer to the xbox e:\udata and run load it as from the game save. This is all spelled out in the instructions so you may need to read them again.
If you already have done this and I'm misinterpreting the above info then please clarify exactly what you did and where your stuck

I've not come across that issue, but I haven't used version 1.8
You could try a previous version, say 1.7. There may be an issue with 1.8 on your box or the download may have been corrupted. How did you copy the file onto the box? Some mem cards can corrupt the data on large save game files when copying across.

Where is Ldots? I would love to see a uxe version. I have updated a bit of the ude version yet adding in the uxe is a great learning curve. Ldots come back!
Or if anyone is interested in making a uxe version. Bring it!!!

The easiest way to transfer is to get the Mega X-key, it is about $US40 from lik-sang
This includes a Xbox to USB cable, a specific USB memory stick and the software to install on PC to transfer files from PC to memory stick. You then plug it into the Xbox and copy over like you would a normal game save.

The package is called 'xboxhdm' for making a new HDD for the Xbox and UXE for the soft mod
