Banned Using Morden's And Xbmc?
« on: June 14, 2004, 12:41:00 AM »

Hey there all,

Firstly let me just say that I'm not complaining - I knew the risks when i wanted to run XBMC and now I'm left with the consequences. I'm very happy with how Morden's Audio Hack worked and I've enjoyed the pleasures of XBMC. Let me tell you what has happened.

I got hold of a modded XBox and used it to stick a copy of Morden's Audio Hack on my memory card, and with 007:AUF in hand I got FTP access to my unmodded box.

So, I reverted my dashboard using the image from Slayer's Auto-Installer to 4920. (I don't know the difference between a Kernel and a Dashboard, but whatever I did I reverted something to 4920, and it worked.)

I then used Morden's to install all the goodies I needed. I think it put on there the st.db audio hack, PBL and MxM. All very spiffy, working well, (with a bit of finger dancing to boot the PBL then MxM).

I then used this to play with XBMC, safe in the knowledge that  I was not going to be banned off XBLive so long as I ran only original games. Fine.

But I logged on the other day and found I was banned from XBlive!

So, please could someone explain:

  • What happened here?
  • How did I get banned?
  • Is it worth buying a new XBox for XBLive access or is Kai just as good?
  • Can I buy a new EEPROM, if so where? (heard about this)
  • Are M$ now scanning hard drives and looking for these exploits? Any still work with XBLive?

Cheers for all the help.

Jaidee.

Sorry to hear your news.  Can't see anything specific you've done wrong.

Three, worrying, but simple explanations come to mind.

1. M$ had recorded the fact that you'd already downloaded and installed a later Dashboard version (and there's no legitimate reason for it to be downgraded).

2. Someone else has 'cloned' your EPROM, and their behavior has caused you to get banned.

3. M$ has added some new HDD checks.

Personally, I don't think any of these are very likely.  If 1 or 3, we'll know soon, as rafts of people will suddenly be banned.  Also if this were the case, it would seem that adding a file renaming/moving step to the exploits would be sufficent to workaround this 'new' security.

I think I know what may have happened. Is the EEPROM stored in a file on the C: drive? Because I once replaced the entire C: drive with a c: drive from Slayer's Auto Installer. Does this mean I've overwritten my old eeprom with a very much used and probably banned one?

Could someone just answer me the next couple of questions then?

I'm going to get a new EEPROM and try another exploit. Which is the safest exploit for use with XBLive? UDE?

What's the bare minimum I should have on my C:?

Cheers again!

OK folks, great news!

I got myself a new EEPROM from Zodiiak, may I just say what a guy, you send him the money and within the hour he had sent me my EEPROM. Made a ConfigMagic Disk, stuck the EEPROM on it, and boom, I'm back on XBox Live.

Give it up M$.

One last thing now:

I'm going to use another exploit, but I'm bit behind the times now. When I was last on the scene Morden's was brand new. What's the latest XBLive compatible exploit?

Thanks for all the help, you guys on XS are awesome.

From My understanding JDK is right if even if you use an original disk if you boot it from a hacked bios you'll be banned!

When you were booting the originals were you booting before loading PBL ie. straight from power on or original MS dash before audio hack ??

Right, time for a quick update.

I must have screwed up somewhere on connecting to XBL after running PBL and got my EEPROM blacklisted. So, I got in touch with Zodiiak, from these forums, what a guy! he gave me a brand new unbanned EEPROM for $10, or about £6 for me, and after using the 007 exploit and ConfigMagic I installed myself a new EEPROM.

While I was doing this I thought it would be cool to convert the EEPROM to NTSC so that I could enjoy the pleasures of the Progressive Scan and HD resolutions. I already had a component cable so this all went very well.

So now I'm back on XBox Live, I have HD output on my XBox and I can now play Rainbow Six 3 online with much fun and laughter to be had.

Naturally, this had not put out the fire in my belly to want to modify my XBox. I want XBMC back, I long for it. So, what exploit would you guys recommend to me if I just want to run XBMC? UDE? Would I need PBL? (What the heck does PBL do anyways that you can't do from any dashboard?)

Cheers!

For your situation I'd suggest you consider the Easter Egg Exploit (aka. EEE), to launch directly into XBMC, however, you'll have to open the DVD tray before launching the exploit if you want to watch Disc-media based content, and be aware it'd reboot if you eject the tray to change disks (Reset-on-Eject - aka. ROE).  Still, if your mainly watching HDD or streamed content (from web or PC), this may suit you.  (I don't believe adding PBL will solve the ROE issue)

And EEE works with the latest Dashboard, and survives Dashboard updates (so far).

You need to have a kernel  <5713 to use this, which I suspect you have.

Wow, it's Pedrospad! I'm graced an honored.

But just let me ask - what if I want to play an original on XBox Live? I do want to do this often.

Also, because I wouldn't be running PBL, does that mean I'm running a legit BIOS, and thus run no rish of getting banned? What about changes to my C: drive, don't they get you banned? Sorry to sound like such a n00b, but I really need to know how to avoid getting banned whilst running your awesome exploit.

Cheers again pedro.

lol.

Yeah, I picked up your a keen Live player smile.gif
The beauty of the EEE is your XBOX is in a completely retail state until you choose to invoke it.  You can play original games, copy music tracks, enter, and leave, the XBOX!Live console, etc.

Once you invoke the EEE, it does patch the M$ signature in the kernel, but only in RAM.  Once your done with XBMC, simply reboot, and your back to the retail state. biggrin.gif

OK, I've tried to install the UDE using ltools, didn't go so well - how do you invoke the UDE?

Cheers once more!

You probably didn't put the update.xbe file from slayer's on either the memory card or straight on the box.  You have to have that  biggrin.gif

You do realise the EEE (that I recommended) is different to the UDE?  dry.gif The UDE isn't that suitable to Live users.  But it's your call.

Cheers to you, but as I said in previous posts, the EEPROM thing went great and I'm back on XBL. Now it's just a  matter of getting the EEE working.

Thanks,
