UDE1/UDE2 Package For Xboxhdm
« on: June 04, 2004, 01:44:00 AM »

Initial version : 1.0
Current version : 1.4

Version 1.2+ requires xboxhdm v.1.6+

Along with an updated version of xboxhdm I made an UDE package. It's aimed at people who cannot use memcards to get the required files on their xbox - I still believe the memcard packages are easier to use if you have this options, since you dont have to take the lid off you xbox. Look here for information on a game save exploit based UDE installer. If you however at the same time want to upgrade your HDD this could be of interrest to you.

The text below is from the readme of this package.
For more information on Xboxhdm look here
From version 1.2 this is completely compatible with the Memcard UDE installer in the Mech Assault version. This means that the installation can be configure from the ltools menu which can be reached by booting your xbox with the eject button. Read more about the ltools options in the link above. NOTE : If you uninstall the hack from the ltools menu you will need to either reinstall in using xboxhdm with the UDE package or to boot from an original Mech Assault game.

CODE

Ultimate Dashboard Exploit package for use with xboxhdm.
--------------------------------------------------------

This is a small package intended to make installing the
UDE exploit easier using xboxhdm.

WARNING
-------

This should be compatible with all currently known NTSC xbox
versions (v.1.0-1.6), kernels (3944-5838).
PAL owners with kernels (3944-5530) can use UDE1. To install
UDE2 on PAL xbox's you need to edit the XBE region in your
eeprom to region 1.

SOFTWARE NEEDED.
---------------
xboxhdm v1.6 or above
UDEpackage v.1.4

This version of the UDE installer will try to generate the exploitable
update.xbe file itself by using patches.
This means that if you have dashboard 4920, 5659 or 5960 installed
it will work as it is. If not you can include the update.xbe from either
one of these dashversion, or the actual exploitable update.xbe itself
(4920 update.xbe for UDE1, NFL Fever update.xbe for UDE2)
in the UDE/files folder before including it on the xboxhdm CD.

WHY ?
-----

Some people dont have the option to use softhack packages from
memory cards. The alternative is to upload files to the xbox
HDD from a PC using HDD Driver or a fatx enabled linux.
HDD Driver is buggy (if people get it running at all) and some
people dont like to use linux because they are unfamiliar with
the commands needed. Xboxhdm tries to be more user-friendly
by including a semi-graphical filemanager, and now also has a tool
that should make installation of the UDE simple.

WHAT WILL IT DO ?
-----------------

This package will :
1) Install the update.xbe font hack (Bert-ate-Ernie).
2) Phoenix Bios Loader v 1.4.1   or
   PBL-Metoo                      or
   nkpatcher.
The bioses included are the 4981.67_ef bios and
   the Evox M8 (needed for v1.6 box's).
3) Evox v. 3935.    or
   MXM              or

   Ip              = 192.168.0.3
   Subnetmask      = 255.255.255.0
   Defaultgateway  = 192.168.0.1
4) Install a font patched copy of the MS dashboard
in C:\ called msdash.xbe to be run from Evox when using
   the font hack.
5) Make a compressed image of C: that can be used
   for restoring for C: later.
6) Make a backup of your eeprom and hdd pass to
E:\backup_linux if the eeprom.bin is included on your xboxhdm CD
7) Make a game save with eeprom.bin and hdd pass to be copied
to your PC from the MS Dash memory menu, if the eeprom.bin is
   included on your xboxhdm CD

On installation a game save directory is added on your
xbox containing tools to configure and reinstall the
package. These tools are the same as installed with
the Memcard UDE installer also available from xbins.
If fact they serve as a game save hack when used with
an exploitable version of Mech Assault.

If you have installed MXM as your dashboard you can reach
the ltools menu directly from MXM's main menu. An alternative
way of reaching this menu is booting your xbox with the eject
button. This should bring you directly to the ltools menu.

If you uninstall the UDE hack from the ltools menu you either
have to have the Mech Assault game to reenable the hack,
or reinstall UDE using the xboxhdm CD.

HOW TO USE
----------
Get the software. Extract both xboxhdm and the UDEpackage.
Move the UDE directory to xboxhdm/linux/
See the howto from xboxhdm for information on making the bootable iso.
(the impatient user can just execute the make-iso-win.bat script)
Unlock your xbox HDD, either by hotswapping or by unlocking the drive
with the unique HDD password (get it from Evox, ConfigMagic, or use your
eeprom with xboxhdm to get the password using the xboxhd tool).
Once bootet to xboxhdm with your xbox HDD on primary master
type : UDE
Follow instructions. When you are done, remember to re-lock the drive
if it was unlocked earlier. Reassemble you xbox. Enjoy !

Note : The tool assumes that the user has a working C-drive before
the UDE is installed. The UDE can and will be installed
in any case (since it will run without any other files than
the ones included), but of course the uninstall function will
not make much sence. The uninstall is aborted if it seems the
unmodded C-drive will be non-functional (missing xboxdash, missing
      original fonts,...)

Remember that you can use xboxhdm and the built-in filemanager 'xbrowser'
to add, remove, renamed files and directories on your xbox HDD.

For more information on the UDE installer look at the Memcard UDE1/UDE2 Installer/uninstaller

Small update to version 1.1
Only thing new is the latest update fonts from Rmenhal that checks for an unset clock.
Did not include the tray-state dual-boot function. Dont see the point in this xboxhdm release.  <

ldots, you're the man!

This package together was just was I was looking for because I have no mem-card and doesn't own an exploitable game.

I have just installed the package and it works absolutely perfect! Was amazingly easy to use for an Xbox newbie like me.

Very impressed!!! laugh.gif

Took me just over 30 minutes and my 80gig was in the machine and working.
Didn't think it would work first time (typing the very long password) but ye of little faith.
That has to be better that HDD Driver, all those error and then half the time corrupting the data on the HDD.

This is what I've been after for some time, easy to use and with loads of warnings when needed.

I don't know how you have the time to keep all these forums updated but credit to ya m8.

Thanks for this easy to use utility ldots. I managed to get everything installed with no hiccups (unless you count plugging the ide cable in upside-down once but I'm pretty sure I should take the blame for that one...)

Edit: Did it to an unmodded, untouched 1.0 Xbox w/ 3944 kernel. I'd suggest this utility to anyone!

PM'ed you.

Yes, it will work on K:4034.
You just have to find the correct update.xbe and add it to the package as explained in the first post. Slayers 2.5 has it.  <
