so then does anybody know whether i can put a switch on to switch between modded and unmodded Xbox?
A few years ago my dad wanted to soft mod the Xbox. He read a number of tutorials on this web site and then started. He attatched a standard USB port to the controller (where the memory chip goes.) and he soldered a switch into the Xbox. He said this was so that he could swith betwwen a modded and an unmodded Xbox.

After that he just stopped doing work on it. he didnt have a USB memory drive that worked and he couldn't be bothered. So I am taking over.

I found this tutorial at http://www.xbox-scen...icles/xlive.php

"             How to play on Xbox Live with a non-flashable modded Xbox
The most important thing to know is that your MS dash must be named xboxdash.xbe. When you first run Xbox Live, it will update that file with the new MS dash with the Live tab. So, you may ask "What about EvolutionX?" Well, sorry guys, but you will have to run EvolutionX off a CD.

So now that you know that your MS dash has to be xboxdash.xbe, you will have to install a switch on your modchip. The switch will disable it, or enable the modchip.

The most important thing when playing on Live with a modded Xbox is that you must always have the modchip off when playing on Live. Turn your modchip off, and then power on Xbox. It is always best to have the modchip off, even when you are installing Live for the first time.

Now, if you want to play backups, turn your modchip on and power on Xbox. You can boot your EvolutionX CD and load your backups off the HD, or you can boot your backup CDs. However, you must make sure you DO NOT access any Live-oriented tabs within the game. DO NOT select "Download Content", "Play Live", etc. tabs in a game. When doing so, your Xbox will connect to Live, and MS will detect a modified BIOS, and you will then soon be banned."

I was just wondering whether this 'switch' they are talking about will work on a soft modded Xbox. Thanx...

For a software-mod you need a software switch  smile.gif .  It is possible to install/uninstall the soft-mod fairly easily (disable via tray-state, and enable via GameSav or UEEE).
An alternative is to put 2 HDDs in the XBOX (1 retail, 1 soft-modded) with a physical switch to toggle the enabled drive - but if you’re happy to open up the XBOX, you may as well install a true mod-chip.

The only hardware you need to touch in a sofmod is the HD. Oh.. wait thats the sofware ON the HD.

Allright, you might have to use a screwdriver  jester.gif

i tried going through the soft modding process, but when i loaded up the EvoX software, it came up in french and then it turned off my xbox. I went to turn it back on to the dashboard, it brought me to the "xbox needs to be serviced" screen. I was wondering if there is anything that i can do in order to bring back the original dashboard. much appreciated
