Wow this is great. Thanks rmenhal for the development. Also thanks to devz3ro for creating a great package. But devz3ro i would like a step by step instructions as to how you got to use xbox live. Sorry about my noobness. Thanks again.

My steps were what I posted before, I did not install any exploit at all on my xbox at first. I Inserted mech assault, went on live, It automatically upgraded the dashboard and then I downloaded all the available mechs. I then booted up splinter cell, used the save game exploit to gain ftp access to the drive, and then from my (I hate to say it, as much as I hate slayers) slayers 2.5 folder transferred back the 4920 dashboard after erasing everything that resided on my Xbox C drive. After all this I then performed the double dash exploit, booted up mech assault and went on live (obviously not able to use any live 2.0 features because its not on the drive).

Won't work sorry! The fact that the 5713 kernel does not allow a dash dowgrade also prevents it from running a pre-live dash from the 'live-tab'

So softmod is still a dead end for any future Xbox ?

I'm having a problem, I tried to do the dd exploit but after I read the readme and followed it to the word, I press the "xbox live" tab in my 4920 dash and it boots to my 4034 dash(the one that came with the exploit). And when I eject it resets. I know the reset-on-eject is going to continue happening, but why didn't the bert and ernie fonts activate? Are they supposed to be in the root of C (mine are) ? Should I rename the xbox book.xtf and xbox.xtf font file on the root of C? My PBL default.xbe is on the root of E. Correct? Thanks and great job on this exploit, it sounds like a winner and one that can benefit everyone.

I have the same problem, I'm using a HALO SE box with 4920 dash.

That's probably the problem. You need to rename the original files to another extension (for instamce xbox book.xft or xbox book.bak) so the xbox is forced to boot the bert and ernie files.

ok, i renamed the font files "C:\xbox book.xtf" and "C:\xbox.xtf" so that they had .bak extensions. I left the two font files in C:\fonts\ alone.  Now when I click on the "xbox live" tab it gives me error 21*. My ernie and bert font files are still only on the root of C

*-i believe its error 21, i can't remember exactly what number

No, you should not rename the files. Within this thread, if you read it, it does not matter.

Yes it will reset on eject, this was pointed out at the beginning of this thread, please read it in its entirety. To get around the reset on eject, the dvd tray must be open before pressing A on the xbox live tab, and once evox or whatever dash you put on loads, you may then close the tray. It clearly states the tray must be open before going to "xbox live" in my readme (atleast I thought so, sorry if I was confusing). As for the old dash loading, did you place a 'evoxdash.xbe' named xbe in the root of your C drive? You did not specify if after the old 4034 dash executed a xbe loaded.

P.S. I am using the Halo SE Xbox also.

Here's some part of the readme file that comes with the exploit.

2. Rename the .xtf font files in C:\ to .bak or whatever.

Anyway if you are getting an error 21 maybe is becuz your xbe isn't signed with the habibi key.

Another thing I should point out.

For those running the 4920 dashboard and did not obtain it from slayers, delete the two files "C:\Xbox Book.xtf" and "C:\Xbox.xtf" *make sure they are the ones in the root of your C drive, not the ones in the font directory* these are not needed. Your 4920 font files reside in the font directory.

Sorry I did not think to point this out earlier, I noticed they were there when upgrading a friends xbox to 4920 using my old xbox live starter kit cd.

krayzie, I meant within my pack found in "the usual places", (I apologize) not the one posted at the beginning of this thread. I wrote no such thing about renaming font files wink.gif

i read the readme and it all sounds good now!

Any chance of a mem card package for people already got 4920 dash?

Regards

Also, while using the double-dash exploit, is the audio hack still active.  ie, if u start up the xbox are you able to go straight to audio hack?

Shouldn't matter where you got the 4920 dash from. It's the pre-live dash (run from the live-tab) that trickers the exploit, not the 4920 dash.

The double dash exploit doesn't interfere with the audio exploit. Of cause if you have allready run the dd exploit, the audio exploit will not work - but no point in that. From a freshly bootet xbox you could still use the audio exploit though, even if dd was installed.

Actually when experimenting with this exploit I recompiled ernie to boot E:\pbl\p (same as the audio hack in catfish package) instead of E:\default.xbe so that I only needed one copy of PBL. If anyone is interrested (who cannot compile the asm code themselves) I could post this ernie.

I currently have pbl 1.4.1 and the stable st.db installed.

Do i still follow the intruscitons in the readme?

Or do i need to do naything different.

Please explain the pbl situation with dd exploit.

I've been looking around for a while in the usual places And I cannot find slayers, at all. Where would it be located at? in what directory?
