Pbl 1.4 Display Help
« on: April 30, 2004, 01:54:00 AM »

I've been having some wierd problems with my display, when I try to use the HD Pack with the tv at my appartment the image is all messed up, when my housemate uses it with his modded xbox its fine.  However when I use the HD Pack at my parents place it works fine on their hdtv.  My parents tv supports up to 1080i, the tv at my appartment isn't hdtv but has component inputs.  The screen is only messed up if I try to load up phoenix, the dashboard displays fine on the tv, only when it loads up to pbl where the image gets messed up.  Any idea what the problem could be?  Thanks.

you must have a newer xbox. the newer ones have the focus video encoder witch is the one the right. since you have this newer video chip PBL gets scrabled.
there is no fix for this....yet.

I do have the focus chip, but why would pbl work with the hd pack on a different TV?  I didn't change any settings, but it just doesn't work with the TV at my appartment.

I'm having a similar problem.  Using catfish fonts to boot pbl 1.4.1 to evox on a 1.1 xbox (so I shouldn't have the focus chip, correct?  I didn't open to double check).  With the 'advanced av' connection box, my screen goes blank as soon as I start pbl from the dashboard.  I have no problem when using the standard av cable or my friend's 'high def. av' box.  Also, a third-party av cable (with audio l,r, composite video, and s-video) displayed the same problem.  All were tested on the same television.  It might just be a display issue, tho, because we could ftp into the xbox as if evox had launched.

Does pbl do any kind of av cable detection?  Why would it bother?

p.s.  I just recently switched to 1.4.1 - I had previously been using pbl 1.0 (!)

Use earlier PBL if you want to use your advanced video pack.

I am using PBL 1.4 with the MS HD pack on a progressive scan tv. Works 100%. Mad Catz HD Pack no good.
Any S-Video No Good
Standard AV all good.
MS RF adapter worked fine

My Opinion so far ( Ive done 11 boxes now) is use MS video accessories and you will have way less problems.

I bought a new xbox a few days ago and had this same problem.  I use the 60$ monster cable instead of the basic A/V cable on my Sony Wega tv.  Anyways...I got the scrambled phoenix screen when I had the monster cable attached...but when I switched to the regular A/V cable...it worked just fine...weird...I wonder if M$ may have done something to prevent 3rd party (better than name brand where monster cables are concerned) A/V products.  Maybe they want us to just buy theirs...  ::shrug::
