Thats the idea, although the data is meant to be copied from the cd, so you will have to mount the fat32 drive manually.

Can anyone confirm if I've got this right..?
If I wanted to softmod a virgin hdd from any Xbox version (incl. v1.6) I could:

#1: Get a complete UXE-pacakage and the xboxhdm package from the usual places.

#2: Copy the contents of the UXE-package to the xboxhdm\linux\c-folder.

#3: Make an ISO for win32/nero with make-iso-win.bat and burn it.

#4: Bootup the CD with just the virgin xbox-hdd connected as primary master (the hotswap trick could be used to get the virgin hdd unlocked), and let xboxhdm detect the hdd.

#5: Select some option within xboxhdm that would erase/format the virgin C-partition and replace the former contents with the files located in \linux\c-folder (where the UXE-package-contents was stored).

If yes -> could anyone plz specify what options I would have to select in step #5 ?

This looks great. Can someone just confirm my understanding what I'd need to do to create a new large HD from scratch with game save exploit built in?

My attempt would be:

1. create CD containing backup of original C drive in linux\C and
the relevant directory containing the game save under linux\E\UDATA.

2. copy eeprom.bin to linux\eeprom.

3. connect new hard drive to PC and boot CD.

4. run xboxhd and select option 1.

5. reboot and repeat for step 2 of option 1.

6. select option 5. Copy down the unlock key.

Now  is where I become a bit hazy. I know that the drive has to be locked before it will work in the XBOX and that I can create unlock keys from the 'backup' command inside evox (this is how I got the eeprom.bin file). So why this step?

I'm guessing that next I need to boot to floppy and run the lock program before I install the drive in the XBOX?

Is that correct?

This is the exact same process I am about to try, to replace my stock drive with a new 120 GB HD in my 1.6 (k. 5838).  My stock drive is softmodded with Softmod Installer Deluxe/mechassault package, and the dash is UnleashX.  I ran the option in the UnleashX menu to backup both the mod and the orginal MS.  I have copied all the files from C: and E: ready to dump into xboxhdm ISO, but there is no "eeprom.bin" in the backup directory.

Is this a bad sign, or do I simply need to run an app to create it so that I can then add it to the xboxhdm ISO?

thanks for any help...

Get the evox dash and run as an app. Then choose the backup option in evox. This will give you your eeprom.bin file. Then ftp into your apps directory then the evox folder and it should be in a folder called backup I believe. Pull the eeprom.bin file from there and burn that onto the disk as well.

XBoxHDM is a very very nice tool... worked everytime for me and other people i know along with KingRoaches UXE auto-installer package for the XBoxHDM program... one time it messed up i was still able to get back into the hard drive and delete my C drive and restore the msdash files to it and run the "softmod" command (KingRoaches auto-installer) and get it up and running again then all was perfect.

i never expected softmoding to be so easy... once u know how and when to connect the hard drive to the pc's ide cable... the rest is pretty darn easy ;)

thanks to ldots and kingroach for there fine programs.

modchips are still best, but softmoding with these programs is a damn nice alternative to a modchip if your low on cash.

Is it possible to emulate a CD-ROM (Using DaemonTools) and run the ISO? Will it work okay? I'm asking because I don't have a CD-ROM right now.

It won't work for this though. You need to boot from the disk, so windows would not be loaded. Which you need for daemon tools run.

So with an actual backup of a softmodded xbox' hdd i can use my old pc to softmod my xbox copying the modded xbox's hard drive?

I'm not a noob at all and I'm ok with linux (dual boot UBUNTU biggrin.gif ) but nobody mentioned if you could         simply install a 3th party dashbord & kernel...
