******************************************************************************* Softmod Lite v0.5 - Memory Card & FTP Package Audio + Fonts + 3 Dashboards mkjones - April/May 2004 *******************************************************************************
This package contains the Catfish/MA fonts and the stable ST.DB audio hack from Catfish/Morden.
It also has 3 selectable dashboards that and is fully configurable from a "Config Manager" system that allows you to:
- Change between Fonts or Audio hacks - Change your default dashboard to either EvolutionX, MXM or UnleashX - Add your OWN dashboard as the "MyDash" option (more on this later) - Remove the package - Browse your hard drive using the File Explorer
The package is built around a slightly modded version of UnleashX.
******************************************************************************* Before you start *******************************************************************************
If you are a noob, and want to know what the 2 font and audio exploits ARE and how they work, read this:

Another cool guide with some info so you don't mess up..
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!
Changing the files on your Xbox hard drive is dangerous and in some cases could lead to you totally messing up your games console, leaving you with a large unattractive paperweight!! Make sure you know what you are doing before attempting any of the following.
Ensure to back up your entire C drive as soon as you get FTP access to your xbox.
Back it up to your PCs hard drive AND a CDROM just in case. You may need it at some point to "re-virginize" your xbox
******************************************************************************* What will I need? *******************************************************************************
- Xbox Memory Card - MechAssault (AKA - MA) - Action Replay Device (or someway to get the MA gamesave onto your xbox HD) - The mkjones-softmodlite-v05.zip file (from Xbins or other)
OR
- FTP Access to your xbox - This can be achieved using either the 007 or Splinter Cell hacks - You 'could' also hot swap your hard drive - The mkjones-softmodlite-v05.zip file from the 'usual places' (Check xbox-scene)
******************************************************************************* What will this do? *******************************************************************************
It will install The Catfish-MA fonts AND the hacked ST.DB audio file on your xbox all from a memory card using MechAssault.
If you do not have MechAssault but do have a memory card you can still install this hack by getting FTP access to your xbox, full instructions of this will follow.
HOWEVER, for ease and a fast install, I fully recommend using MA and a memory card.
If you have a memory card and MA simply read on, if you do not and want to install via FTP then read "mkjones - softmodlite - FTP INSTALL" further down.
******************************************************************************* mkjones - softmodlite - MEMORY CARD INSTALL (recommended) *******************************************************************************
Download and unzip the "mkjones-softmodlite-v05.zip" file, you will see a file named "MA GameSave 0.5.zip" this is the gamesave file you need to get onto your memory card, do NOT unzip it.
This file needs to be transfer to an xbox memory card using some kind of "Action Reply" device, this is a device that lets your PC read Xbox memory cards.
Here are some tutorials to help with creating an Action Reply device: - http://forums.xbox-s...showtopic=79198 - http://www.llamma.co...usb_adapter.htm - http://www.xbox-emul...oller-Mod.shtml
It can also be done with a "HOT SWAP" of your Xbox hard drive, basically placing your Xbox HD on your PC for a shot time so you can copy the files.
Here are some Hot Swapping tutorials: - http://forums.xbox-s...T&f=45&t=143288 - http://forums.xbox-s...ST&f=45&t=73720
In BOTH of these cases you will still need MechAssault.
Personally I made a USB-Xbox cable for my PC, it was simple. It allows me to use my controller on my PC AND Copy gamesaves that I download.
Once the Gamesave is on your Xbox its as simple as:
- Loads MechAssault - Select the "Run Linux" gamesave from the menu - Config Manager will load!
******************************************************************************* Memory Card - The Installation *******************************************************************************
To install the package select "Softmod Setup" from the main menu, you should see two options - "Install Package" and "Make ST.DB file"
"Install Package" will do exactly what it says, install the package.
The "Make ST.DB file" option will "make" a new ST.DB file for you in your xbox "E:\TDATA\fffe0000\music" Folder. The installation NEEDS this file to be there and if you have NEVER ripped any audio with your Xbox you may not have this file.
If you think you are ok, select the "Install Package" option and you will have on screen prompts to guide you through the install. Hopefully everything will run smoothly, you will then be told that "Fonts are NOT ACTIVE, Audio Hack is ACTIVE" and then the system will move on to the NEXT screen of the installation where you can do all the good stuff.
Remember, at this stage the only hack enabled is the Audio hack! To change this select the "Font/Audio Switch" menu option in the Config Manager.
Then, select a default dashboard from the options available. Once you re-boot this dashboard start, you can change to another dash or turn on/off the font/audio hacks by booting the "Softmod Config Manager" option from ANY of the dashboards. The link is there, just look for it.
For more information on the "MyDash" dashboard option please "Using MyDash" further down in this README.
******************************************************************************* FTP Access - The Installation *******************************************************************************
Xbins contains the files that will allow you to get FTP access to your xbox, there are a few around and as long as you have either "MechAssault" - "007: Agent Under Fire" or "Splinter Cell" you should be ok..
I recommend any simple hack that allows you to boot "Evox" such as "MechassaultwithEvox" as these are normally quite small downloads and will allow you to gain FTP access quickly and easily.
If you need to know MORE about how to get FTP access here are some tutorials: - http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=183856
You can FTP to your xbox using its IP address and "xbox" as username and password.
******************************************************************************* mkjones - softmodlite v0.5 - FTP INSTALL *******************************************************************************
With FTP access to your Xbox unzip the "mkjones-softmodlite-v05.zip" file.
You should see a file called "MA GameSave.zip" unzip this. Once unzipped you should have a folder called "UDATA"
This is a VERY important step:
Go to the "UDATA\4d530017\62d648ebf155\ConfigMan" and find the files "newConfig.xml" and "Config.xml".
RENAME as such:
- "Config.xml" rename to "startConfig.xml" - "newConfig.xml" rename to "Config.xml"
Now.
Browse this folder until you find the mkjones folder it should be in:
"UDATA\4d530017\62d648ebf155\mkjones"
Browse the folder it has 2 and 2 files inside folders inside:
The folder contains:
- C.zip - E.zip - Audio (folder) - Fresh (folder)
Now, FTP connect to your xbox, I recommend using FlashFXP.
You now need to upload the "UDATA\4d530017" folder onto your xbox.
Go to your xbox E drive. You should see UDATA.
Open this folder. Now upload the "4d530017" folder from the UDATA folder on your PC.
You have just uploaded the MA gamesave and Config Manager.
Stay Connected!
Now, on your PC unzip the zip files 'inside' the mkjones folder so you have something like this:
The C folder:
- C.zip > "C" (folder) - E.zip > "E" (folder)
Ignore the "Audio" and "Fresh" folders for now.
The next step is simple. Upload folders in the E folder (PBL, Dashboards) to the E drive on your xbox.
You xbox should now have the Dashboards and PBL folders on E. It should look something like:
Xbox:
Dashboards PBL UDATA TDATA
Now, the fonts.
Go to the C drive on your xbox. Open the fonts folder.
The unzipped C folder on your PC should contain "bert.bak" and "ernie.bak" inside a "fonts" folder upload these to your xbox fonts folder on the C drive.
That's the hacked fonts on your xbox.
Now, the Audio hack.
On your xbox open the "TDATA" folder and find the "fffe0000" folder (its at the bottom).
Open it, it should have a folder inside called "music" open this.
Inside this folder is a file named "ST.DB" rename this to "ST.or"
If you do not have an ST.DB file here, you have never ripped an audio CD. To make a new and clean ST.DB file, simply Rip some audio. OR use the one in the "Fresh" folder.
Next upload the "ST.DB" file in the "Audio" folder in the "mkjones" folder on your PC. You have just uploaded the audio hack.
Now, you are almost done! We just need to boot the Config Manager to finish up.
Reboot your xbox.
At this point the Audio hack is active, but the font hack is not. So, on reboot go to the MUSIC option on your xbox dashboard, you should see a blank option select it then press:
A-DOWN-A-Right-Right-A-A-A
This will attempt to "copy" the hacked audio file and start the Config Manager.
The Config Manager will now boot.
First you need to do now is decide if you want to "turn ON" the fonts or keep the Audio hack?
If you turn the fonts on, the hack will be started by selecting "PHOENIX" from the M$ Dashboard, if not, you can boot the audio hack in the same was as you just did by selecting MUSIC and then:
"Down-A-DOWN-A-Right-Right-A-A-A".
Now, select a default dashboard from the options available. Once you re-boot this dashboard start, you can change to another dash or turn on/off the font/audio hacks by booting the "Softmod Config Manager" option from ANY of the dashboards. The link is there, just look for it.
******************************************************************************* Using the "Config Manager" *******************************************************************************
Each dashboard that is included should contain a link back to the "Config Manager" Look on the main menu for it.
Boot into this if you need to:
- Change between Fonts or Audio hacks - Change your default dashboard to either EvolutionX, MXM or UnleashX - Add your OWN dashboard as the "MyDash" option - Remove the package - Browse your hard drive using the File Explorer
******************************************************************************* Using "MyDash" ******************************************************************************* The MyDash option allows you to upload a new dashboard to your system (via FTP) for use with the package.
First of all select a dashboard you wish to use as your default dash and have it ready to upload.
ENSURE that the main .xbe file of the dashboard is called "default.xbe" IF NOT RENAME IT SO! DO NOT!! MISS!! THIS!! STEP!!
Then, connect to your Xbox via FTP and browse to:
E:\Dashboards\MyDash\
Upload the dashboard files to here.
Now, boot the config manager, go to "Select Default Dash" and select the "MyDash" option. Reboot and whatever dash you placed in the MyDash folder will load.
UNFORTUNATELY! You will not easily be able to boot the Config manager from your new Dash, so if you wish to change the font/audio hacks or swap dashboards you will have to load MA.
Another option is to have a link in your "NEW" dash to one of the "OLD" dashboards (such as EvolutionX) in the package, you can the access the Config Manager from that.
******************************************************************************* And we are DONE! *******************************************************************************
Well done!
If you want to take your Xbox on holiday, i.e. it will be "without power" for a good few hours, then ENABLE the audio hack until you arrive and have power again.
No more worries about the clock loop. You can use ripped music Less tired fingers for gaming
Hope this helped some people. If it didn't, sorry |
