i already did compared with liveinfo, and the pass didnt match mad.gif
i used evox to dump my eeprom, could it be that my eeprom is wrong???
i cant acces my xbox hd anymore, so my xbox is useless now?
(i do have my xbox hd, but with the fonts and in clock loop)

I meant compare the passwords once you get your eeprom dumped from ConfigMagic. I suspect that your eeprom dump (not the eeprom itself) from evox is no good. I had this happen for me on a 5101 xbox using evox 3921. Using ConfigMagic the eeprom dump was fine. You would also get the hdd pass from ConfigMagic automatically.

To get your xbox running again you can just hotswap, boot the xboxhdm CD, and then use xbrowser to restore the original fonts and temporarily rename the hacked ones.

Hi good work Idots

My friend wants me to softmod his box

To do this I want to use your application but I am thinking is it possible for him to just take out the hd, give it to me, and plug into my pc in order to add the required files.  I cant have/get the EEP ROM since he hasnt got access to evox yet

thx

Do you mean your HD is actually broken, or just in the clock loop? Cause that could be fixed, so you could redo you eeprom dump.

You could also just try and see if you calculated pass is OK (either from liveinfo or xboxhd). The hdd will of course lock - question is if you xbox will boot. Just be very sure you keep a log-file of the used passwd so that you can unlock the hdd again if the passwd was indeed wrong.

If you do it right (see tip on the tutorial) it's unlikely that neither hdd or ide channel will break. If you dont like the idea of hotswapping, then buy/rent/borrow an exploitable game like MechAssault or SplinterCell and use this to run Evox or ConfigMagic to get the hdd password and eeprom.

Forgive me for being stupid here but I seem to be having problems.

I want to use this program/package to format/build a hard drive from scratch.  The hard drive had stuff already on it when I used this program.  First, it worked fine.  I was able to format it using the "build hard drive from scratch" method, but here's where I run into problems/confusion... On my original Hard drive (10GB), I have MKJONES softmod installed on it...with the ability to switch between audio and font hacks.  Anyway, I used my EVOX to run backup and get my hdkey.  Now, here's where I get a little confused.  According to the instructions for XBOXHDM, you are supposed to use this key to unlock/lock your new drive??? (is this right?).  But I don't understand how you could use that key on a NEW drive, if each key is drive specific.  For example, when using the hdkey command from the bootdisk, I get something COMPLETELY different as the HDKEY then what I got off EVOX.  I've tried unlocking/locking with both keys and am able to do so successfully.

Now, when I boot into the CD, my comp recognizes that there's the new XBOX HD (already formatted) connected, and also my CDROM.  BUT, when I try and run xboxhd or boxexplorer (i typed in the correct commands at prompt even though these may not be it) it says I have nothing hooked up to the primary channel...but I do, and the bios recognizes it as the correct hard drive.  When I boot into DOS and use UNLOCKX, I get that my drive is "locked"...I unlock it using 1 pw (new from hdkey from bootdisk), fine.  Says "lockable" reboot to set...or something like that.  But, when I reboot, I keep getting the same "no drive on Primary" error....

ANY HELP?????

I'd be fine with starting from scratch....If I could get the damned BOOT CD to read the drive!!!!

According to the instructions for XBOXHDM, you are supposed to use this key to unlock/lock your new drive??? (is this right?).

I dont hope that's what the instructions say. As you say the hdd key is hardware specific, so the key you should use to lock the new drive with is the Calculated Password you get from hdkey.

But what's you problem then? You say that you have build the drive and locked it with this new key. Doesn't it work in your xbox then?

However the problems you have with the boot cd not recognizing the primary master is because the drive is not unlocked. Your bios (and the linux kernel) will see the drive but xboxhd cannot access it if its locked. Why unlockx doesn't unlock it, I dont know. Try to unlock it, then reboot to DOS again and enter unlockx to check it's unlocked.

If unlockx doesn't work for you (happens on some drives) you can use the hdunlock and hddisabl (both are needed) commands from the DOS boot option also.

You did include your eeprom.bin on the CD right? If not the program was supposed to notify you on this if you tried to generate the hdd password.

bbright----

also to add to ldots reply, I had something similar happen on my HD with unlockx, I booted to dos, ran unlockx it showed the drive and said it was locked, so I used the PW and the drive said "lockable reboot to set" when I ran unlockx again. I rebooted using the 3 finger salute (ctrl, alt, del) and the linux distro couldn't find the drive.

So I booted back into dos, and ran unlockx again and it still said lockable...reboot to set. So I did a hard boot (shutdown completely and restarted the machine). And this time the linux distro saw the drive. Everything worked fine from there on.

It looks like for the unlockx to take the drive needs to spin down completely and start up again. Anyway hope this helps.

cheers,

Zed

Thanks for your help Idot and Zed...

I'll try and let the hd completely spin down.

Idot - Yes, I did put the eeprom on the CD along with a working C and E drive from my original hard drive.  I even put everything back in the Xbox and started EVOX again...this time from my hacks....ran the backup...got the eeprom/etc. info...

Then, I started an evox from a gamesave MA exploit.  Again, backup...got the eeprom/etc. info...I noticed that both of these gave the same information, except the one from the exploited EVOX showed 2 more lines of text:
HDDLockDisablePassword (with information identical to the ":" format but without the ":"
and then XboxHDKey (this number is the exact same number I get when I used Live Info.

I tried this method also (http://xbox-scene.co...ip-hdd-swap.php) but found I didn't need to zero out the partition due to your program doing that already.  So, I restored my backup image from HDD_Driver to this newly unlocked drive...ran hdlock, put in xbox.  Now I'm getting Error code 6.

Any suggestions?  If I can manage to get this drive to be read by the boot disk, is it possible to just start from scratch and overwrite what I've done so far without doing anything but using your disc?

By the way, even though I'm having problems getting this to work with my machine, I give you mad props for making everything so simple and easy to use.  Obviously, there's a few sour apples in the bunch that this program won't work smoothly for (looks like I may be one of them), but all in all it's a really kick ass package.

Thanks for your help guys!

Well you could have a working drive. You most likely had this when using xboxhdm also. Your problem must be with the locking of the drive. Error 6 means you xbox cannot unlock the drive on boot. So either the drive is unlocked or locked with a wrong password. Remember as you said yourself - unique  password for each drive!

If you want to, yes. You can just rebuild the drive from scratch using the xboxhdm cd. Since the fatx partition table should be there, it would only need to format the partitions and rebuild. You could also choose to only rebuild the C-drive. Finally if you want to start all over you can start by 'wiping current fatx partition table'.

@wolfblade: why do you want to softmod your xbox when it´s already hacked? It must be hacked, because you got evox running on your box! Just use the backup function of evox to get the eeprom and then save it via ftp to your pc.

@idiots / all:

Got a problem with your package. Made the CD correct. Put the hole contents of c on my box to c in the linux directory and the tdata and udata to e and a folder with everythings else on my box.
So I shut down my pc to disconnect my harddrive and leave the cd burner and the dvd burner in to boot from one. Also connected the harddrive which should be use later in the xbox.
So I bootet from the cd an there was a first error message within all the infolines of the kernel. "EXT2-fs: maximum limit of mounts reached" or such.
At the prompt i typed xboxhd and then the next error line. It stated that hda could not be mountet because bad superblock, bad sectors or maximum limit of mounting is reached. And then it goes to an info screen which showed me the correct drive specs and on master and I can continue with (y)es or (n)o.  In both cases I´m back at the prompt.

I´ve burned the cd in 2 times in 2 different burners to exclude that there is a problem with the cd or the burner itself.

Can someone tell me what that means and why it´s not working for me here?

regards
