If you have neither your eeprom or hdd key, then this will not help you. Neither will any other hdd unlocking tool.
Should in theory be possible to get the password using (an expensive) logical analyzer (according to xbox-linux), but it's not worth the effort for these small HDD's.

bengu - I'm just speaking from recent experience, but I don't think anyone has come up with a way to unlock the drives without the actual password used to lock it. This distribution includes a tool to generate a password based on the eeprom you include when you create your iso. Without the eeprom used to lock the drive originally you would not be able to unlock the drive. XBOXHD doesn't lock or unlock the drives, but the distribution does provide unlockx and hdlock/hdunlock on the build so that people can lock/unlock there drives.

If any of this is wrong I apologize.

Ldots -

Good to hear the HDD passwords were the same. So your HDD should be locked correctly. Most be missing or corrupt system-files on C: then - I think

I am going to attempt slyer's evox build next and see where that takes me.

What I meant was to try and pack xboxhmd with C-drive you can extract from this CD.

thats what I was going to try, but thanx for confirming. I will try tonite when I get home and see what happens. I double checked everything on the ISO I made with the backup of my C and E drive and the eeprom from my original drive. And everything matches as far as size/filenames/etc. I wish I could figure out what I'm missing. (I know it's going to be one of those little things) Anyway thanks again.

will update tonite on what happens.

cheers,

Zed

ldots, I noticed that it only copies over the UDATA and TDATA folders on the E drive no matter what you put in that directory, is there any chance you could have it copy over everything you put in the E directory to the new E drive for those people that use the audio exploit or packages?

Zed, I had another thought .... are you restoring your drive back to factory default or were you also including exploit files on the CD?

if exploiting, did you sign the xbe files?

a guy at work semi-hosed his box trying to use the unleashX dash (didn't backup his eeprom like i told him either !!!) and forgot to sign.   blink.gif

i really dig unleashX, but had to spend a few minutes changing some text from french to english

Yes - will do in next release.
The reason it doesn't do this now is that I made the UDATA and TDATA folders no matter what was on the CD (since these are needed), and therefore only copied files from these folders on the CD.

Until this is updated, just use xbrowser to copy over files and directories manually.

I have a unmodded xbox. I was trying to install linux and it required that I downgrade my dash. I did something wrong and my xbox wouldn't boot. It gives me an error 16. I backed up my C drive on to E drive before trying the downgrade.

I also have hard drive password and stuff, output from xbox_tool -a.

My question is can I use this tool to restore my harddrive? If so how?

Thanks.

Error 16 means not the dashboard but files related to this are missing or corrupt. Restoring the C-partition on your drive should do the trick. You can use this tool to do this yes. Just follow the guide in the beginning of this thread to pack the bootable linux CD with your backed-up C-drive files.
Then use the 'Restore C-drive' option xboxhd.

If you have an exploitable game like MechAssault it would be even easier to use a game save hack with Evox to get ftp access to your xbox - then just delete the files on C: and ftp over your backup. This way you wouldn't have to remove your HDD from the xbox.

Edit : just read your post a second time. If you need to downgrade, then get Slayers Evox Autoinstaller which contains the C-drive with dash 4920 which would be what you need to run linux (or other audio/font hacks).

when i use the generate password option....
it says that the eeprom hash (orsomething) doesnt match with the calculated ............(something was here)

i do get an epkey, a hddkey, and a calculated pass.

would this mean my calculated pass is correct??
(or should i use the hddkey to lock the drive??)

I wouldn't count on your calculated HDD password to be correct.
The decrypted data from your eeprom was not as "expected". I think if you ran liveinfto with this eeprom file you would get similar result. Most likely something is wrong with your eeprom dump.
I would try to make the backup of your eeprom with ConfigMagic. I have experienced faulty eeprom dumps by evox personally. Then try redo the HDD passwd calculation with xboxhd, and if you feel like providing test information also try using liveinfo with the same eeprom.

Hi good work Idots

My friend wants me to softmod his box

To do this I want to use your application but I am thinking is it possible for him to just take out the hd, give it to me, and plug into my pc in order to add the required files.  I cant have/get the EEP ROM since he hasnt got access to evox yet

thx

beerchug.gif

I have found success!!!! Oh yea whos your daddy!!!!

SO the problem was with the unlockx tool. Even though unlockx was saying the drive was succesfully locking and unlocking, it actually wasn't. I was going to use HDlock yesterdau but when unlockx successfully unlocked and relocked my retail drive (and it booted when out back in the xbox) I figured it was something else. But today I tried locking the 60 gb. with HDlock just in case, put it back in the xbox and success! SO it looks like unlockx doesn't like the 60gb hd the model id WD600BB in case anyone else has problems. I noticed that under the HD compatibilty list a couple people have had no luck locking their WD600BB drives with config magic as well. I wil post the exact model of the drive later for reference.

Thanks again for an awsome tool...and for some serious support! If I had any suggestions to improve anything on the distribution, it would be to change the "go have a beer...it could take awhile" to "go have 3 or 4 beers"

Anyway thanks again

cheers,

Zed

Not possible! If you havent got the hdd passwd or eeprom you have to hotswap to get the access to the HDD. For hotswapping you need his xbox, since only his eeprom will unlock the drive on boot.

Yep - do believe a have stated severel times that unlockx sometimes fails where hdlock/hdunlock succeeds and vice versa. That's why I included both tools on the CD.

Well, some people drink their beers faster than others. Maybe your suggestion is better, but with a proper warning : "go have 3 or 4 beers, but dont re-assembel your xbox until tomorrow" tongue.gif
