Wasn't my choice to put it there. The site-search option should let people find it easily though.

Hi ldots,

no, I don't think you can make it much easier. I don't know how I misunderstood the HDDKEY generator. I had read all the documentation + this thread.

I think the problem was I was doing some serious multitasking. I was setting up my network domain win2k advanced server machine (which is housed inside my MAME machine), setting up another 60 gb hard drive for my HTPC (running win 98 se), and updating my son's softmod xbox from XBMP to XMC.  (I work crazy hours and I finally had free time to take care of all these things).  I made the mistake of running live info for the hddkey im my laptop using the eeprom.bin instead of generating it through your "all in one" on the PC with the new Hard drive (I know stupid mistake).

I thought I was paying attention to the number I entered in HDlock. You would think that I would be able to unlock the drive though by entering the password I typed in HDLOCK so that I could start all over again. But even though I read/checked it 3 times before I hit enter, I seemed to have messed it up typing it in.

Oh well I'm going to see if I can get some free time tonite to try and unlock this thing. If not I guess it was  a lesson to remember.

cheers,

Zed

And thanks again!

okay! we're back in business. SO I have the drive unlocked. I made an iso cd of this distribution with my eeprom.bin in the eeprom dir. and my c drive and e drive in the c and e drive dir. I connected the 60gb to my pc and booted xboxhd. I chose option 1 and went through step 1 of 2. Then it rebooted and I went through step 2 of 2 under option 1. I ran the hd key generator choice in xboxhd and wrote down the EEkey, HDDkey, and the calculated password. Also it mention the drive could be locked but currently wasn't.

So there I sit....my question is so now I need to lock the hard drive right? Do I run the dos tools and use unlockx to lock it or hdlock? Also when it asks for the password I type the "calculated password" right? not the HDDKEY? Sorry if this seems noobie but I just want to ensure I dont clusterF*ck myself again.

cheers,

Zed

Yes, you boot to DOS and use either unlockx or hdlock. They should both do the same thing. However, I would advice you to use the "make dos floppy with locking tools" option in xboxhd also and boot to DOS from the floppy, OR to boot to DOS from CD but then follow the advice printed to screen about inserting a formatted floppy and run 'savelog'.

In either case if you should happen to use the wrong key you would have the log file.

Finally, it's the calculated passwd you use.

okay so I used unlockx to lock the drive withe calculated password generated from the distribution. I even double checked the hard drive serial number and the model number under the HD generator. It locked succesfully and backed up to floppy as well. I connected the HD to the xbox and received the needs servicing error again right after the blob animation.

So i pulled the drive and ran unlockx, it said the drive was locked so I unlocked it with the calculated password, and then used xbrowser to make sure the necassary files were on the HD. (they were). Now the calculated passord ended with 12 pairs of zeros, I tried locking with the entire calculated password (including the zeros) and also with the calculated password (but with out the last 12 pairs of zeros). And the service message came up both times.

My next attempt will be to reformat the drive to a clean FATX partition then attempt option 3 (the clone).

Now before I attempt this I am assuming I will need to unlock the original drive for the distribution to be able to see it. So should I run the distribution with the original connected to the primary controller, run hd generator, then unlock the drive. Change it to secondary and put the new 60 gb. on primary, then run option 3. When the clone is finished relock both drives again.

If any of this sounds messed or there are other suggestions or steps I am missing please feel free to "school me". I am far from a noob when it comes to my win32 systems, but I definetly am a noob when it comes to my xbox modding. (I have read through most of the tutorials in this forum and I have played with quite a few of the apps, but none of these things compare to "real world" situations.

Thanks again for any help or suggestions anyone can make.

cheers,

Zed

Sounds to me like you did everything correct???

Only thing I can think of is that some files on C are missing or corrupt. Did you get the C-drive files from you own backup? Are these files the original/unhacked ones? If you have Slayers Evox (or if you are willing to get it) you could try to include the C-drive included on this iso in the C-folder of xboxhdm to rule out any of these possibilities. I have succesfully build working drives with these files.

Another possibility is that your hdd passwd is incorrect. The drive would succesfully lock even if you use a wrong passwd. Do you have more than one eeprom, and are you sure you use the correct one? You could also try an boot to windows and use liveinfo on the drive to be sure the calculated passwd is the same as the one xboxhd calculates. (would be nice if you would try this actually as I have only tested the HDD key generator on my own drive - for which it worked!)

That should work yes. You dont have to rearrange the drives after unlocking though. For cloning the new drive doesn't have to be primary master as you will be asked to choose source and distination drive. Maybe you could get a better speed by putting source and destination drive on seperate IDE channels, but this shouldn't affect the result.

zedhead,

As rabid-platypus asked above, it would help if you tell us the error number that you're getting.  The error number is in the top-left corner of the "Your Xbox needs servicing" screen.

Grospolina - as I mentioned after rabid-platypus asked for the error code, I'm not seeing one anywhere. Whe I turn on the xbox it loads the blob animation, does the HD check and goes straight to a green screen that says my xbox need service in a few different languages. there are no erroor codes in any of the corners.

Rabid-Platypus - I think I will try slayer's evox next I will keep updating as I go along.

ldots - I tried live info and it calculated the same password as your generator so its not you (its something I'm missing) I don't know if it matters but the xbox I'm trying this one is a first generation xbox (bought the first month they came out in North America) with no dashboard updates, other then the 007-evox save on the hd its pretty much virgin.

I am going to attempt slyer's evox build next and see where that takes me.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to suggest things and help out.

Cheers to all,

Zed

A great tool Idots, I managed to clean my C: drive successfully after doing a hotswap.
Problem now is, is that I can't seem to unlock my drive.

I created my own winxp bootdisk and put unlock x on it. And i used the key I got from evox. Power is being supplied to the hard disk and its set as primary master. Now Unlock X detects it successfully, when I typed the password, which is absolutely correct, it tells me programme aborting. Then I try again. Programme aborting again. I assume the drive should be unlocked and locking disabled now, so I restart and Linux says it can't find the drive.

Ok so then I had already placed my eeprom.bin in ur linux.iso folder. and then i get an all new hdd key. I take the  calculated key and its totally different from the one evox gave me. What do I do now  to unlock the drive ? Please guide me to the correct method. Thx.

@ zedhead
Good to hear the HDD passwords were the same. So your HDD should be locked correctly. Most be missing or corrupt system-files on C: then  -  I think  biggrin.gif

What I meant was to try and pack xboxhmd with C-drive you can extract from this CD.

@ holydude
So you got your xbox HDD running with a new C-drive by hotswapping. Why do you need to unlock the drive now then?

Anyway - could be two things. The HDD passwd you got from Evox could be wrong. I have seen this happen. ConfigMagic on the other hand has always provided me with the correct password. So did your try to use the HDD password you got from xboxhdm? I does hurt trying to unlock the drive - it's when you lock the drive you should be carefull you have the right password.
So I would try this. Since you apparently allready managed to get evox running on your xbox you could also try to get ConfigMagic on there and get the HDD password from this. I'm 99,99% sure this password will be the same as the one you get from xboxhmd - plaease confirm.

Then try unlock your HDD with this password. If unlockx still fails, then try hddunlock and hddisabl (you need to run both) instead. This is also included on the xboxhdm CD. Sometimes hddunlock works where unlockx fails, and vice versa.

I want to format my whole drive and start again because i think the E partition is corrupted due to some heavy ftp screwup. Oh yah my xbox is Flashed TSOP with evox m7 eject fix(so locking unlocking don't matter). It can't play any backups, or boot slayers. ONly originials. So i thought its the dvd drive and so I pot tweaked the phillips, no difference, then I decided to swap DVD drives with my friends box which is running Mordens. My Phillips is totally able to play backups etc on his box but on my box, when i load it, it just freezes and makes a gamesave in the gamesave folder, It detects the game but doesn't play it.

So bottom line is, now im convinced is a hard drive error and IM hell bent on fixing it lol.

Thanks for the quick reply thouhgh(man you're tool is excellent dude love.gif ) . I'll let you know once i try it out. Gonna grab some sleep.
