You might try the dos tools. They are perfectly safe to unlock a disk and disable the security. You just have to watch out if you lock a disk with them. You need to enter the password manually. So, if you make a typo, you can end up with a disk that refuses to unlock. (Because you don't know the correct password anymore.)

I think the xboxhdm package has an option to create such a floppy. If your pc doesn't have a floppy drive anymore, you can create a bootable usb stick. With the bios properly setup, most modern pc's are able to boot from an usb stick.

You guys are lifesavers.  Before I had a clue what I was doing, I attempted to load a softmod using the Splinter Cell exploit that had been pre-loaded on a memory card.   I'm not sure what happened, but I was getting errors (something about the softmod finding modded files on the C:drive even though I had only copied over save games to E:??)  Anyway, in frustration, I managed to delete my backups as well as delete linux and it left me with an XBOX that wouldn't boot to the dash, or play games.

I thought I was screwed, but after taking a few hours to read the tutorials on this site, (Hotswap and this one) as well as finally understanding what it was that I was trying to accomplish, I gathered all the stuff I needed and attempted a hotswap to get my XBOX back into working order.  Lo and behold it WORKED and I have the NDURE softmod working, and all my backups work!

Feeling adventurous, I decided to see if while I had the XBOX open I could try to use a spare 120GB drive I had lying around, and again, following the tutorials I got everything to work.  Amazing.  I totally thought I had a brick and would have to spend another 100$+ to get this thing repaired.

Huge props to all the people who have posted tutorials and made all these wonderful homebrew apps.

I am trying to unlock my hard drive (I have the eeprom) but xboxhdm isn't seeing my hard drive. I'm pretty sure this is because my hard drive keeps going to channel 4 instead of 0 but I don't know how to move it to channel 0. Even when I unplug everything except for my hard drive and floppy drive it still stays in channel 4, any ideas?

I had a softmodded xbox with a full c partition, so i wanted to format my hard drive. I used AID 4.13 to reformat my hard drive and used the softmod option to reïnstall a softmod and xbmc. Unfortunatly that option was made for an xbox with an working dash so my xbox wasn't working anymore.

I have a backup of my eeprom.bin and my hdd key so I thought that this wasn't a big problem. I used xboxhdm and the MS dash files from slayer 2.7 and put them in the C folder of xboxhdm.
The unlocking, reformatting, reboulding and relocking went fine but my xbox is still giving me the error 14 dashboard error.

I have made a few different xboxhdm iso's with files from different sources. Everytime my xbox is giving me the error. What could be the mistake I made?

I discovered that I'm getting error 14 with an original disc and 13 without a disc. So I am also unable to boot from an original disc.

Hi,

this procedure should work.

you might reformat the E partition as well (if you haven't already done that.)

you could try things out unmodded, and mod the harddisk again afterwards. Kingroach 3.1 is a great package that works together with xboxhdm.

if you want to keep your gamesaves from your E partition, backup them before you reformat the E partition.

you can use the xbplorer360 driver to access a fatx partition from within windows.

Are you sure you copied all the right files from the slayers extraction C and E partition?

regards.

This is not a file what has to be in the root folder. I thought it was an easteregg file.

The xbox can read the hdd because it made the TDATA and UDATA itself when I deleted them. But it keeps giving error 13.

I found that file in my xboxdashdata.185ead00 folder. I copied it to the root of my C drive but still error 13.

Hi,

maybe you should try over the whole procedure.

I really don't see what the problem could be. You can have such issues with an old dashboard and a new 1.6 or 1.6b bios. your xboxdashdata.185ead00 refers to the right 5960.01 dashboard.

If you could send me the complete contents of your C and E partition, I am willing to compare them with my files.

I don't think you should delete your TDATA or UDATA. They contain a lot of folders in my case. your TDATA and UDATA appear to empty. This could cause your issue.

regards.

I've send you a pm about that.

The TDATA and UDATA are the savegame folders. While I don't have savegames anymore these can be empty.  I have tried the reformatting and reboulding many times with different versions of the microsoft dashboard and with a presoftmodded version. So I think it can't be a file problem.

The xbox won't even boot with my original XIII game. But it can read and write the hdd because it makes the Udata and TDATA folders when they are not present.

I even tried putting the files on manually with xboxhdm and with xplorer360.

All without succes.

It seems there is a bigger problem then only a wrong dashboard file.

Hi,

I know the UDATA and TDATA contains the gamesaves. I was just thinking that maybe the M$dash was saving some stuff there as well.

It is always possible that something else is wrong. Your xbox was working before you erased the C partition. Since that is the only thing you messed up, reinstalling a M$dash on the C should fix it.

That is why I am thinking it has something to do with the files.

How did you mod your xbox the first time? Did you use the same pc? Is the harddisk jumper restored correctly after it was connected to the pc?

These are just a bunch of wild guesses. I never had the error 13 or 14 myself, so I can only tell what I learn from the forums.

What version of xbox are you having?

regards.
