hmm i'll start digging on that hd-gen stuff...

on the same topic, do you think you can get the hdlock to read a text file with the key?

edit/update:
hmmm
after doing some searching i have not found any source besides the key calculating map in the xbox-linux docs, maybe you can contact speedbump or team assembaly(live info) if they can spare any source...

OK - Thanks for the effort though. According to the readme I found 'the usual places' it was a linux source that would generate the key for a specified device as long as the user supplied the eeprom key. Shouldn't be that hard to extract that from a eeprom image. Maybe I need to search the xbox-linux CVS some more.

Should be fairly easy to let hdlock read the pass from a txt file. I havent given up on the hdlock code yet as I think I know howto access the IO-ports in linux now. I will recode the thing i C though - just need the free time biggrin.gif

Right now I was working on extending the functionality of the distro. Adding a xbrowser command that will search for xbox C & E partitions, mount these as well as a source CDROM and run the Midnight Commander filebrowser. Need to make a statically linked version though as I the distro would grow if I included a C-development environment in the distro.

This will give the user a semi-graphical tool to browse, copy, rename etc. files on the xbox-drive. A bit like the Norton Commander from the DOS days.

Will try by email.
Another thing. You wouldn't happen to have the audio and font key? Would like to make a xbedump with all known public keys for linux...

Yeah well - just thought there might have been some code from the "win32"-version floating around.

For hotswapping (a working drive) I prefer pulling the DVD IDE cable before boot. Short howto at the bottum of my tutorial

I have not "yet" a way to unlock-restore-lock xbox drives from PC. In the latest version you can however boot to a DOS-prompt with unlocking tools, so all tools nessecary are available on the CD. When locking the drive again this way you should write down the passwd when prompted though (or use the savelog command to store the passwd to a floppy).

@ CS Boy
At the moment no. I believe I compiled most usb support in the kernel, but the usb hot-plugging is not there so the device would not be recognized. Could be made though if needed....

@ BadAngel
In the tutorial I ask you to connect the drive to secondary master. The fatx patches to the linux is limited in this respect. Since the xbox HD is always on  the master channel (in the xbox) this is also adapted to the linux patches. So your xbox HD will only be recognized is its on primary or secondary master. No need to change any isolinux.cfg files.

For a automated tool to do what this tutorial describes, have a look at this
