Ftp Problem With Lan...
« on: January 11, 2004, 12:09:00 PM »

ICS will always want the 192.168.0.x subnet, so if one of your nics is already in that subnet it will freak out (depending on what nic ICS chooses to host on)

Anyhoodle, just take your existing nic outside of that subnet before you try and setup ICS. Use 192.168.100.0 or something, anything but 192.168.0.x

Ok, to speed things up, how is your private (non-internet) NIC configured? (what IP and subnet mask)

Change it DHCP and try it again. I think whats is happening is ICS wants to use the same network that you already have configured, and its getting pissed about it.

He doesn't have a router, so DHCP won't work.

What scribla is saying is that if your primary nic card is set to 192.168.0.X, set your secondary (xbox-attached) nic to 192.168.100.X (and do so in evox.ini as well).

But I doubt this is your problem.  If you don't have a router, your IP address on your primary is unlikely to be 192.168.0.x

Please tell us the configuration of both of your network cards, and how they're physically connected to your modem/xbox.

I'm guessing you're doing this in order to allow the xbox to see the internet, right?  If not, there's no reason for ICS.

Also, what OS are you using?  If it's XP you're probably going to have to change the IP scheme on your router (XP's ICS defaults to and is unchangable from the 192.168.0.X network.)

It depends on what router you're using, but most home routers use 192.168.0.1 as the router address.  Since you get a conflict when you try to set your nic to that address, that's probably the case here.

Leave your primary nic with a 192.168.0.5 (or anything other than 192.168.0.1), then open a web browser to 192.168.0.1 and that should probably connect you to your router config program.  If that doesn't work, check your manual to see how to get into the config program (and how to change the ip scheme).

dry.gif You have to change it to something OTHER than the 192.168.0.X subnet.  The 3rd "octet" (the third set of numbers seperated by periods) has to be changed on your primary nic.  Try either manually setting your nic or, preferably, change your router's scheme to serve 192.168.100.x.

yea what you need to do is change your router to 192.168.1.1 and have it serve out dhcp on 192.168.1.x then you can set up ICS.
