Phoenix On 5530 : Work

I guess this is kinda stupid, but i don't have a softmodded box atm.  Does config magic work on a non-chiped box?

From what i read, this still doesn't  solve the problem of 5530 kernal not able to run the 4920 dash...............if this is correct, then it really doesn't matter if PBL works or not...........it's nice that it works, but i still need an exploit that works.......does the audio work with later dashes? how is this problem solved

QUOTE (Grospolina @ Mar 15 2004, 12:42 PM)
When you release something potentially dangerous to your system, you have to make it as idiot-proof as possible.  Case in point: newer versions of EvoX come with an option to lock or unlock your hard drive.  This feature comes enabled in evox.ini by default, but it can be removed.  This can be dangerous for softmodded systems, because it won't boot from an unlocked drive.  If the feature isn't disabled, then anyone can go in and kill the Xbox (and even make it necessary to get a mod chip if they don't have their eeprom.bin or HDD key!).  It's happened before.

the evox.ini has the scripts, but the items to call them from the menu are commented out by default.  One still has edit evox.ini to be able to use them.

OK Im really Thinking of trying this but Im really confused.  What are some good steps i should follow and what are the requirments of the xbox, does it need to be moded or can i take it out of the box and do it.  (I also already know how to FTP if that helps at all)

What would be the use of modding it when you wanna softmod it. It was only mentioned a few times for people who wanna test this shit out cuz it's safer when you have a chip plugged in. You suposedly should go and do this straight out of the box. But as no-one actually tested and confirmed it you'd be better of to wait a while cuz you might fuck up your xbox. I'm sure there will be lots of info and tuts on this subject soon. Also out of some other posts I read from you you're not very experienced on the whole modding scene to begin with so try if you like but don't cry if you mess up your xbox.

The evox versions from the usual place always have the lock option together with the flash bios option commented out. At least the ones I've downloaded had.

Great work Yoshihiro!!

I don't know if someone has tested his method yet.
I didn't, cause I wanna know 4 sure it works.
Before flashing a modified eeprom I want to be sure what exactly I'm changing.

So now I'm trying to do some research myself and I need help..
I'm no programmer but I think I might found something interesting..

When I've compared the eeproms of different older xb's with that of the xb with kernel 5530, I saw that all of them have the 000383000...etc code in em.
So overwriting it with FFFFFF0000..etc. seems unnatural.

And I noticed the letters RST RDT on older eeproms.
and the letters WESTWEDT on the newer k5530 eeprom.

Isnt it possible to just overwrite the part that should be filled with the yosh-code, with the last part of an eeprom coming from an xb with an older kernel??
Seems logical to me.

I haven't compared them so I don't know all the differences between the the two and I'm surely not skilled enough to find out what these changes in the eeprom actually do.
Also since it looks like a completely new eeprom version wouldn't it be nescessary to ad a new eeprom key on the boot.cfg?

hi all..

i made a backup of the eeprom off a 5530 box using configmagic & evox and opened it up in a hex editor (hackman hex editor and XVI32) but there is no 000383000 code in it..

i think i read somewhere that the hack might cause the eeprom reading not to be accurate, so i used the Audio the 1st time n MA gamesave the 2nd but still the same results.. no 000383000...

anyways.. do u need to unlock the HDD to read the eeprom properly? coz i know u hv to unlock to write the eeprom, then re-lock..

nevertheless, i tried taking a blank eeprom n filled it in liveinfo and flashed it using configmagic. then used audio to load phoenix --- still does not work (tried x24981.06bfm n evoXM7 bfm). tried font as well --- also does not work.

used config magic again to retrieved the filled in eeprom, but still no 000383000 line..

i then proceeded to extract the eeprom off a modded 1.0 xbox. no 000383000 line in it too... What Am I doing wrong here???

anyhow, i took that 1.0 eeprom n flashed it as well in the 5530 but phoenix will still not work.

so i guess, its not a matter of replacing the eeprom from an older box but to fill in those lines that yoshihiro quoted..

but i cant find the damned 000383000... (manually or with Ctrl+F)

ideas?

That's probably your time zone information.

RST/RDT, WEST/WEDT -> X Standard Time/X Daylight Time

Damn this doesn't sound so good. So you're saying you flashed an 1.0 eeprom on a 5530 xbox and it still worked. Too bad it didn't fix the pbl. I'm beginnin to doubt about the whole fix.

I've checked my eeprom from the backup produced by evox and there is the 000383000 code in it, what do I need to sign config magic with to get it to load under MA/007? I assume it the habibi key, but it keeps coming up with error 21 :(
