I recently had to change out my dvd rom drive, i replaced it with a samsung from a 1.6. Since then, my Matrix (in a 1.0) has been constantly inactive, standing with the red led on at all times (minus a split second of green during boot). the box works fine (with MS dash, of course), but i can't seem to get the chip to trigger again, any ideas?

I just installed the matrix chip on my 1.0 with a modded 616T. What I just figured out was you have to place the HDD as master and the DVD as slave. See if that works for you.

What color is your x-box logo when you boot up the system?

Mine looks like a hot pink/red color & I had some probs with my chip not too long ago (it became unstable and I think it was because it lost it's alignment so then I got a bigger screw because the threads got stripped) & reflashed it with a "colored" bios.

Ever since then, my system does the same thing yours is doing, but I was trying to think that logically, since it was a colored bios, that maybe somehow it has a cool effect on the LED to reflect the colored bios that the chip was flashed with.

I really don't think of it as too much of a problem since the system works fine.

But if this is totally wrong or some kind of concern, I too would like to know as well!

Two questons.  Did you touch the switches on the matrix if not what are the postions.

Ok last but not lest the red light can also mean that the d0 is not aligned.  And with that said that would mean that the chip is not working becuase it need to disalbe the onboard bios via the d0.
