1.5 Box With Focus Chip
« on: February 14, 2004, 01:51:00 AM »

I have a 1.5 xbox with Dash 4920 and K:5101

Using the font exploits / PBL 1.3.5i / evox m7 bfm, i can get my xbox to boot, but it flickers.

I can jst about make out the phoenix screen loading, then a black screen saying "Press A to go to selection menu"

If i don't press anything, that screen stays there indefinitely.

If i do press A, it goes to another flickering screen where i can just make out the word Phoenix, and at the bottom of the screen it says xboxrom.bin. This screen is displayed indefinitely, i have tried a combination of button pushes, but nothing happens.

I have confirmed that the xboxrom.bin is in the right place.

Any advice

look in your boot.cfg file
if it is all 0's you need to find one with an rc4 key in it, though you are not allowed to ask for those here.
after that if it doesn't work, it likely is because you do not have a 'bfm' bios (bootable from media is what it stands for)... that can be found at the usual place for it.  After you find it, you can open it with xbtoool and customize it and tell it which dash to boot to/where the dash is.
Then just load that into the bios folder..  My friend has a box with the focus chip, I spent a while trying to figure this out myself, but I have successfully gotten this to work.  Give it a shot.

Oh, and btw.  He has the same kernel as you.  5101 so yours will work.

Thnx for the reply, i am going to progress as follows:

I previously used the pbl 1.3.5i and signed it myself (rc4 was all 0x00's)

Instead, i will get the signed_font_pbl1.3.5i with a good rc4, and use that

I have also got both the x2 4981 BFM and Evo M7 BFM

regards

Finally.....

After a couple of months with several failed attempts, i have got my beloved Evo X dash loaded. I have timed the flickering from the focus chip - this lasts 5 seconds.

I would like to give thanks to gueebs for his assistance with the RC4 key, i would like to thank Morden for his work on the audio exploit, and i would like to thank the guy who did the guide that i used for installing both font and audio exploit. I am now running with the audio one.

Thanks also to everyone with the technical knowledge who can teach a gimp like me how to achieve this.

Kudos

okay, so what you are saying is that if the boot.cfg DOES have an rc4 key then it should boot correct? that also if you are booting to a bfm bios.

and if that doesn't work, you talk about editing the bios w/ xbtool. what exactly do you do? i'm doing a 5101 box right now and anticipate some trouble ahead.

are you asking how to change the bios? by default, the boot.cfg file looks for the bios in the bioses folder named xboxrom.bin. so if you want to use a different bios, say the 4981.06_bfm.bin you would have to rename that to xboxrom.bin and put it in the bioses folder.

okay your using fonts, so in your C:\root you should have the bioses folder from pbl. in that i'm guessing you have xboxrom.bin. just rename any bios you want to use to xboxrom.bin and overwrite the one that is currently in the folder. you should be fine.
