Downgrading Friends Xbox Dash Using My Dash Backup
« on: February 05, 2004, 07:23:00 AM »

My friend asked me to come over and put Mordens on his xbox.. but when I got there it seemed to instal fine but I got the "100 Soundtrack" error..

SO, I looked at his Dash and its NOT 4029 its 5XXX.. I guess he must have upgraded it sad.gif

I have my C drive on CDROM all backed up from before I installed the exploit, just in case wink.gif

SO, could I simply take the CDROM to his house, boot MA-evox for FTP and then remove his C and then replace it with the C on my CDROM making a hackable dash????????

I dont wanna have to get Slayers if I dont need to wink.gif

Yes, that would work, as long as you backed up ALL of the files.

I don't know what t0ken is asking about.  You're not copying your own dashboard to your friend's Xbox, but a backup of his old one (btw, good job making a backup).  Even if you did copy your dashboard over, it should still work, because the dashboard doesn't depend on the kernel version or board revision.

Edit: Oops, my mistake.  You were in fact copying your own dashboard to his.  I thought you had backed up his old dashboard.  It still shouldn't matter.

Sounds good, just a little scary being that if the power goes tits up while I am transtering the NEW C drive it wont work ohmy.gif

Anyhow, I will give this a go.. and get back to you..

BTW, my Xbox is a 1.4/1.5 and this one is pretty old, I would say a 1.1/1.2 maybe..

UPDATE  blink.gif

OK! I backed up the dudes dash to my PC and then deleted his C via FTP.
Then sat back and watched as my dash copy went over.

BUT! I went back to the xbox after the dash had uploaded, and pressed eject...

Good old... ERROR 21

unsure.gif  BUGGER!

I dunno what happend next as I was kinda in a panic, but I put mechassault back in and luckely the game booted!

SO, I am now in the process of re-uploading his OLD dash and praying it works!

Any idea where I went wrong?

OK, its working again with the orig Dash.

I am starting to think I just chickend out and it WAS working, I mean, it booted MA after I had the Error 21, so it must have been working!

I didnt actually power down and power up, i just exected MA and obviusly the system re-booted after this... so I will try again later on and see how it goes....

Actually, there was a problem with the dashboard (although I'm not sure what it was).  The reason you could boot into MA is that when the Xbox is powered on with a game in the drive, it will boot the game without going to the dashboard at all.  Even if your entire C: drive was blank, it would still work, as long as the clock hasn't been reset.

QUOTE
Restore his C drive back to the way it was.

Yes I did that, it works ok new (phew)  cool.gif

QUOTE
Try just deleting the xboxdash.xbe and the xboxdashdata folder and copying that from your CD to his xbox and see what happens.

Right then, I see now that these items seem to be the most important dash elements.

OK, I havent as yet tried all of this again, for the simple reason that its been a busy weekend, if all goes well I will report back smile.gif

Also, if anyone would like to host my old dash, it fits into about a 100mb zip file, would save messing around with slayer..

You got an error because you missed a file/folder
Anything other than the XOdash one that is the xbox doesn't care much about that one

HELP  cool.gif

OK, same situation.

- Loaded the MA save for FTP access.
- Wiped the C drive of the other xbox.
- Uploaded the C drive from MY xbox.
- Re-booted the xbox.
- Error 21 ohmy.gif
- Checked my C drive files:

QUOTE
C:\Audio (whole directory; mostly WAV files)
C:\xboxdashdata.10xxxx00 (whole directory; mostly XIP files)
C:\xodash (not required, actually)
C:\fonts\Xbox.xtf (make sure it's NOT "xft")
C:\fonts\XBox Book.xtf
C:\xboxdash.xbe
C:\Xbox.xtf (not required)
C:\XBox Book.xtf (not required)

I have all of these ^ files, why doesnt it work  mad.gif

Plan B - The Catfish Installer to downgrade Dash
I rememberd that tha Catfish/Mechinstaler package at Maxconsole has a downgrade dash option. So downloaded it around 8pm last night to see if that would work.

I then planned on using Mordens after downgrading.

Jesus! The Catfish installer is a pain, tried until 1.30am to get the "missing" files, I was pretty damn sure I had them all but the bloody RC4 key didnt work no matter what I tried.   sad.gif  So I gave up and went to bed.

Plan C - Use slayers to downgrade
I now have a copy of Slayers in front of me, when I get time I will use the Dash on the CD to downgrade.

Hopefully this should work sad.gif but I still have no idea why:

- My C drive will not work on the other xbox?
- The catfish installer is such a pain sad.gif

IF anyone can help out, that would be great...

C:\Xbox.xtf (not required)
C:\XBox Book.xtf (not required)

uhh.gif  uhh.gif  uhh.gif  uhh.gif  uhh.gif

I have no clue about this one. I've always installed the old dash and it ran...

I'll ask a very stupid question...
You do mean you down graded the dash and it error 21'ed not you downgraded the dash installed the font exploit and it error 21'ed????

And a just incase
Fill in the x's here
xboxdashdata.10xxxx00
From the foldername you backed up from your xbox

sad.gif I followed this tutorial:

QUOTE
20. Right click "Xbox.xtf" and choose delete.
21. Right click "XBox Book.xtf" and choose delete.
22. Click the
  • besides the "Fonts" folder and delete the two files there.
    23. Right click "xboxdashdata.xxxxxxx" choose properties and change it to the xboxdashdata.xxxxx" you have on the   downloaded DASH 4920 (mine was: xboxdashdata.1012a700").
    24. Delete all the files in that directory
    25. Right click the "xboxdashdata.xxxxx" folder and choose insert, now insert all the files from the MSDASH 4920  "xboxdashdata.xxxxx" folder.
    26. Right click the "Fonts" folder and insert the files from the MSDASH 4920 "Fonts" folder.
    27. Delete the "Xboxdash.xbe" file under "System".
    28. Insert into the "System" folder, the "Xboxdash.xbe" file from MS DASH 4920.
    29. Insert The font files from MS DASH 4920 "Fonts" folder into the "System" folder.
    30. That's it, boot your XBOX goto settings and look at the D. version, it should be 4920.
    31. If it gives you any kind of error, do the swap again, load hdd_driver, choose Tools --> Restore, and restore only the "System" partition.

But obviusly because I used FTP and not hotswap it was a little bit simpler smile.gif but it didnt work sad.gif god damn it!

Anyhow, I have the slayers CD, and It contains these files in the SYSTEM/C folder:
user posted image

Now then, MY xbox C drive back up looks like this:
user posted image

And my friends looks like:
user posted image

OBVIUSLY, the slayer files are for the xboxdashdata.XXXXXXXX folder, but there is no dash.xbe etc... So I dunno what to do with these files  blink.gif

Can ANYONE help sad.gif

It supposed to be easier than this right??? sad.gif

P.S. Still cannot get CATFISH to work, so using that to downgrade first is out of the question as I spent about 3 hours last nite working on that, damnd RC4 keys....
