Interesting post.

The guys at phoenix would be interested in the screenshot.

I remember reading in the forum about wanting a screenshot of a scramble evox.

Pheonix Is Causing The Screen To Scramble.

I'm trying to do a font exploit on a v1.4 and I'm having the scrambled video problem. I been watching this thread and followed all the suggestions in here. I'm using the PBL 1.3.5i signed font exploit package.  I just grabbed the x2 4981 and made it BFM with xbtool 1.0.14. Named it xboxrom.bin and put it in c:bioses. I did not change any keys in the .cfg. I'm still getting scrambled screen. It's a black screen with white text. I can make out the following:

2bl entry point: P:biosesxboxrom.bin

version 1.1

and there is also a key which I won't post

Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

That 2bl entry point usually pops up if 1) you don't have the right RC4 keys, and 2) you're not using a proper BFM BIOS.

First, I'd check is your keys in the boot.cfg. If the keys are 0x00 0x00 ... 0x00 for the RC4, and EEPROM keys they are not valid keys. You have to go looking for those.

Secondly, I'd double check how you're making the X2 4981 bios into a BFM Bios. Simply checking the "BFM Flag" in XBTool won't work, as there's a few more steps involved in making your own BFM Bios. I'd recommend getting a premade BFM Bios first ( >= X2 4979 BFM BIOS) and getting that working first, then make your own or editting an existing one to your liking. I only say this as it'll reduce your headaches in figuring out what's wrong.

If you're curious though, here's a guide written by NghtShd on how to make a BFM BIOS:

I grabbed the X2 1981 BFM from xbins. I'm using the signed PBL package that had non 0 RC4 and EEPROM keys filled in. Now it boots goes through some scrambled screens, then stop in a black scrambled screen with no text.

I just want to get to a point where I can flash the TSOP.

Anything else I can try?

Hmm, EEPROM keys being wrong will go to a blank screen (but you said they weren't 0's so I assume it's right). Next, PBL won't run on a 5530 kernel.

I should point out that you don't need PBL up and running to flash your TSOP. PBL only helps softmodders run unsigned XBE without having to sign every file they want to run. Since you're going to be flashing your TSOP, it's probably not worth the hassle of getting PBL up only to set yourself up to a situation to flash it.

If you want to find out more info on TSOP, look at the TSOP forum for the tutorials on what to solder and what software to use:

Using an exploit to load straight into EvoX and raincoat are both valid options, but I'd say use raincoat as EvoX has trouble flashing winbond TSOPs.
