Xbox Frags Often

i dont know why but my xbox frags often....i have a 1.0 xbox, with a thompson drive, a chameleon 1.3 modchip flashed with evox m8 bios, i changed the hard drive to a 40 gig hard drive, the mod chip is on the motherboard using the pogopin adapter, and the d0 is not soldered on....but i dont think that is the case, when i first put the mod chip in (like a year ago) it was fine, it would never frag, but now it starts fragging a lot, like twice a week, sometimes when it frags i just leave it off, come back a few hours and its fine.....whats wrong with my box?

You can try bending the D0 wire a bit so it applying constant pressure on the point on the mobo, after heatup/cooldown etc... it is probably just losing contact.  To fix this permanently solder a pin header on and a wire on D0 and your Chameleon will work like a champ.  Or at the very least cut that D0 wire off of the adapter and solder one to the chip and D0.

Sorry blubberpud but d0 is not the problem here.

DarkManX4lf there are two things you can check.  I know like most other people you want to install the chip hard drive and never open the xbox again but sometimes it is needed and I think you will need to do it now.

First reason I think it frags is that it is not getting proper grounding since your d0 is hooked up you need something on the lpc to boot a bios.  The mod chip if it is not getting a good ground will not power up and hince cause your xbox to have no bios and it will flash on and off and then flashing red and green.

Secound reason the lfram pin7 might not have a good contact since this is the pin that the bios sends and receves info.

If the screw is loose it will cause ether or both problems it is tight then...

My suggestion for eather problem is to remove the solderless adaptor and clean the mother board lpc and or check the ground typicaly it is the screw or pin 1 connection.   If you have 100% Alcohol use that if you only have rubbing alcohol (70%) then you can use that but please dry it up and try not to spill it on your xbox since it has 30% conductive water.

I am having the same problem. My Xbox will work for a while, I turn it off, and back on and get the green on and off three times then frag red and green. I have taken the solderless adapter off and cleaned lpt points with alcohol, reseated the solderless adapter, reflashed the chameleon and still it does the same thing. I leave it off for a while and it works, turn it off and turn it back on and it frags. It worked great for about a year, now this.

Ok,

Chameleon is a different chip so it has different problems.

I am wondering how tight the solderless adapter is to the chip.  If you have a multimeter test for continuety(sp) from each pin to the pin header solder pads.

The solder pads are just above the pin-h letters.  If you see a hight impeadance on one of the points check and see if the solderless adapter is looking good on that rod if it does try bending some of them in a bit and then rehook it back up.

Also if you used the rivits then check to see if one is missing.

Here is a picture of how the rivits should look like.

The weird thing is, I took the soldrless adapter and chip off and it still did the same thing. Maybe heat issue? I put some heat sink paste under the big heat sink, and it's working for now. But at first it was doing the same thing for a while(power up 3 times then frag Green and Orange), until I put the solderless adapter and the Chameleon back on. I even bought a new Xenium Ice thinking it was the chip, but that did the same thing also. So I am up and running for the time being, I'll save the Ice for a new xbox when this one wont boot at all.

Hey man do you have a multimeter or volt meter.  I am certaint that it is not your mod but your motherboard or power unit that is the problem.  This is a very different problem than I have ever seen.  If I were you I would test your power supply and see if all the voltage is in sync.  I hope you figure this out wih out getting a new xbox but if you would like to know it might be cheaper to get another motherboard off ebay and unlock your hdd.

Hey try one more thing.  The pins on the solder less adaptor try bending them in and seeing if you get a much snuker fit if the chip works better.
