No, PBL v1.3 or even the latest 1.3.5i will not work with kernel 5530.

Thanks for writing this.  THis is one of the clearest tutorial I've read.

but of course, no matter how clear the tutorial is, I would be the one to screw up.

I did exactly what you told me, except for I used Xecutor bios 4981 instead of 4979.
Now my xbox FRAG, comes up with error #13.

Questions I had along the way:
my c:\ drive has Xbox.xtf & Xbox book.xtf in additon to xboxdash.xbe.  so I deleted the .xtf files since I have them in the \fonts directory.  Is this ok?
When I searched through the xboxdash.xbe binary file for XTF to change to XFT, there was one occurance that it wasn't in uppoer case, ie.: Xtf
I changed that to Xft
Is it case sensitive?

Finally, I used xbox-linux "emergency linux" to ftp the files in and not the Mechinstaller_with_Evox.  Is this OK?  I figured as long as I transfer the files in, it doesn't matter which way I use.

I have a 1.4 XBOX with:
K 1.00.5101.01
D 1.00.5659.03

Can someone tell me what I did wrong?

Yeah the bios has to be a BFM bios as in boot from media! otherwise PBL won't load it.

The FatX file system is not case sensitive

And downgrade the dash to 4920.  The tutorial missed that out (but it was mentioned later).
