Sounds like you need the latest version of PBL which is 1.3.5i

I found the updated version, not quite sure what to do with it though... all the text file says is

"Rom bins go in Bioses subfolder on the box.
Need all the jpegs copied to work properly.
RC4 key is not in boot.cfg.
Old boot.cfg will not work.
A within timeout period to enter bios selection menu.
Black to exit bios selection menu without selecting a bios.
White to reload bios list.
Can replace jpegs with others, of any dimension.
Jpegs must be RGB.
Font jpeg must be 16x14 chars."

What d I do with the files?

Does it have to do with the boot.cfg file and the RC4 key?

Kolk to the rescue! biggrin.gif

mkjones: I'm glad the scrambled Phoenix logo pisses you off. Live with it. You can't fix it and it probaly won't be fixed for awhile. The newer Xboxs have a new video chip that PBL can't handle. *applauds to MS* At least there trying to stop us from hacking. wink.gif

deleeuw: Once you have PBL 1.3.5i, install that and then grab the Evox M7 Bios from the "Usual place". Unpack that and rename to xboxrom.bin and overwrite the original on the C drive. The Phoenix Logo will still be scrambled, but Evox will boot fine and everything will be normal.

I run the new PBL from the Apps directory on E:. Create a directory called Phoenix or something and put it in their, create a subdirectory called Bioses and put your bios in their. You will see the scambled screen when it's loading but when Evox pops back up it will be fine.

Actually the move over to the FOCUS chip was purely to cut down on production costs, the pay of was a small error on PBL..  I can live with it, for now..

However, the new architecture in the 1.4 and 1.5 boxes does make modchip instalation a little bit harder, and of course there was NO BIOS that ran on the new FOCUS chip for a while, but it only slowed down the scene for about 30 secconds im sure..

rename the new x2 4979 bfm bios to xboxrom.bin and put it where your other xboxrom.bin is.

Thanks. But when I do so, after the scrambled Phoenix splash screen everything goes black and evox never loads. This is because I do not have PBL 1.3.5i properly installed, and previous versions of PBL do not load that set of BIOS. As the poster above is also asking, could someone please provide an exact explanation on how to set an X-Box up to install PBL1.3.51 (not as a program)? This would solve bnoth of our problems.

sad.gif Other people have gotten this to work and I have been trying this for days and devoting countless hours to it. If someone would be kind enough to post a COMPLETE tutorial on how to install PBL1.3.5i w/ the audio hack so a new X-Box can load evox and not be scrambled, it would be much appreciated!!

We can't give you exact instructions as we don't know your config.... But in general:

the below assumes you currently have PBL installed as linux.xbe in the root of E: and your audio exploit uses the -audio key. You will need to adjust it for what you are really using:

1. Extract PBL1.3.5 to a dir on your PC.
2. Use xbedump to -audio sign PBL's default.xbe.
3. Delete default.xbe.
4. Rename out.xbe to linux.xbe.
5. Put evox M7 or X2 4979 BIOS in the BIOSES folder as xboxrom.bin. This folder should be in the same folder as PBL on your PC.
6. Edit Boot.cfg. Put the eeprom keys and RC4 from your OLD boot.cfg in the new one.
7. Use XBtool (if needed) to set up the new BIOS to launch evox.

So now you should have a folder on your PC with the following:
linux.xbe
boot.cfg
a few .jpg files.
a BIOSES folder
The BIOSES folder should have an xboxrom.bin in it.

8. FTP into your XBOX.
9. Delete your OLD PBL.
10. FTP the new PBL to the same place that the old PBL was.

DONE!

Make sure:
1. You delete all of the old PBL files.
2. That the BIOS is configured correctly.
3. That the XBE of the new PBL is the same name as the old one.
4. That you also tranfer the BIOSES folder.
5. That you have correctly signed the xbe.

Good luck!
