Big Clock Loop Problem!
« on: December 03, 2003, 02:08:00 PM »

cool.gif pressing eject in the right moment when the MS logo appears. tried this 1000+ times.
c) letting the xbox reboot for a couple hours
but without success.
i do NOT know the hdd key from the xbox's hard disk. i hotswapped the hard drive and connected it to a computer in my LAN. windows recognized the drive on my 1st try (seagate 9,x gb). i made a backup of the drive using the latest version of winhex.  problem is, there are no original fonts backuped on the drive.  what can i do to bring my xbox back to life?
1. is it possible to alter the 2 font files using winhex (although the file sizes differ), i.e. to restore the original fonts from the hacked ones ? if so, how do i do this with winhex??
2. will it work when i put another xbox hdd taken from another xbox in the clock looping box? or won't it even boot because of the different hdd keys?

please help me. i'm getting really frustrated on this...
thanks in advance.

Is this your first loop? Have you been able to boot PBL and Evox before? I have two solutions for you.

1. Let your XBOX boot untill it loads the dash. (This does work. I've done it lots of times)

2. Reinstall PBL.

1 or the other should work.

yes, it is my first loop. i used bert & ernie fonts and left the xbox some hours without power. i was able to boot this xbox before and successfully load PBL and evox. it worked perfectly.
how can i reinstall PBL when i have the clock loop problem?

yodanut: i do have a backup of the original font files. but they are on another pc in my lan, not on the xbox. i only have access to the xbox hdd via winhex. how can i copy the original font files to my xbox harddrive using winhex? or is there a program that lets you "mount" the xbox harddrive with fatx-filesystem on windows, so that i can easily copy the files??

bbjk:
1) while the xbox is in the clock loop, it won't boot anything. putting xbmp in the drive won't help, it will not boot it because of the loop.
2) unfortunately i do not have the backup fonts on the xbox's hard drive

yodanut:
thanks for the tip. i will try HDDriver tomorrow after university. i guess this could solve my problem (if it works :-)

and for winhex, it is not use to sent a font file over, it is use to change your bert and ernie font extension to something like .old and change the original xbox and xbox book font to it's original extension which is .xtf, so use winhex and do a search for the text bert and ernie font or just do a search for .xtf biggrin.gifs...

You could always use HDD Driver

i tried hdd driver on a pc with windows 2000. according to the readme, this program only works with windows 2000 and xp. when i launch driver.exe, it fails to run because of a missing dll (msvcrtd.dll). i don't have this dll (neither on this windows 2000 pc, nor on my other windows xp pc). anyone got that to work and can help me out?

It needs the Visual C runtimes, search the web for them.

morden: actually, i already tried that. i downloaded VC6RedistSetup.exe (contains runtime files for visual c++ SP5). but there is only a msvcrt.dll, not a msvcrtD.dll (notice the D in the end).

kami: thanks a lot. i just found that out myself using MS's dll help database. i'm installing msvc6 right now to get them from the /vc98/debug directory.

edit: ms visual studio 6 copies the debug dlls in /windows/system32 during install. they are not in /vc98/debug as stated in the dll help database (or did i miss something)

is hdd driver still being actively developed? it would be far more convenient to have a release version of the program instead a debug one...

ok, i have hdd driver working now. i had the "invalid file size errors" first. i solved the problem by changing 5 "fatx"-strings on the xbox hdd to "....".. now hdd driver detects the xbox hdd and loads up without an error. the problem is, the program window is empty. i cannot browse the xbox hdd. do i have to use the backup/restore-functions of hdd driver first in order to be able to browse the fatx filesystem of my xbox?

After you install PBL and stuff, you need to change the 5 offsets back to FATX. Then Restore cache 3 and user like before. Your E Drive and other stuff should be back.
