All I did to get it to work is sign the default.xbe with xbedump using the '-font' command. Then I burnt it on DVD-R. I insert the game into my xbox, then power it off. Then I start the xbox back up. The xbox reboots twice (and NEVER more than that) then the game starts. I have not had a problem with the game since. I am now on the third level of the game, and it has played beautifully. I am not sure how this would work for audio hack users though....sorry.

audio hack users would simply sign it with -audio, but i think you miss the point. The problems arise when using Phoenix Bios Loader which you mustnt be usin as your signing games.

yes if you want to do it with the font hack your need to move pbl to your apps folder still signed then replace it with a signed evox dash

then when you boot the font hack it will take you to evox and not pbl. your be able to boot any xbe that is signed from evox and if you want to boot anything thats not signed you can still load pbl from the apps folder in evox.

I DO have PBL installed, but I signed this particular game with the font hack because it was not working with PBL. If you have a game in your drive when you start your xbox, it will start BEFORE PBL loads (Provided it is a signed default xbe-whether it is MS signed, or signed for your hack) So, for this one game, YES, I signed the default.xbe, if that is what it takes to play it with my softmod. All the other games that I have backed up have worked perfectly with PBL, and are unsigned. I just wanted to play my backup, and help the other guys here play their backups any way I could.

If you boot with a game in your drive, it has to be an original  uhh.gif

The font exploit doesnt load if a game is in the drive, unless you flash the tsop.

Well. DDaddy, try it with the font hack, and sign the default.xbe of the game with the font option in xbedump. You will see that it does, indeed work. smile.gif

Oh, yeah, one thing that I forgot to mention.....I noticed that the xbox will reboot once or twice with the font-hack signed game in it, then boot. Well, once in a while, the xbox will not reboot more than once, then attempt to load the game. Whenever this happens, the game does NOT boot, but stays at a black screen. What do you suppose would cause this?? It rarely happens, but I thought I should mention it, since I thought it was weird.

Yes, Warbeast, I decided to try to load PBL as an app, with just evox loading through the font hack at startup. I figured that since I had already font-signed the default.xbe, I might as well give it a shot, and yes, it worked perfect. Thanks btw, there is now at least one sure-fire way to play your backup of Crimson Skies......really good news.

When crimson skies was released i had the same problem and thought to try signing the default.xbe but never did, now i wish i had biggrin.gif thanx a lot to whoever actually tried it, it makes me think my original thinking was correct the game wiped the ram where the bios is loaded by pbl which is why i thought this would work. Good job to all involved beerchug.gif

Yeah I saw this and was a bit confused....

Not likely but, I wonder if the Dashboard fonts are loaded on the way to the Error 21 SOD (Screen-Of-Death)?  Or, alternatively, after a few retries of the DVD-ROM, the BIOS falls back to booting the Dashboard.  Loading the fonts would patch the BIOS signature and try to launch default.xbe from the current-working-directory, in this case the DVD-ROM.

Discwizard's experiences kind'a support the theory.  The reboots sound suspiciously like the font-clock loop type symptoms (the fonts struggling to get going).

(Just trying to match the reported symptoms.)

pedros, i think the xbox is booting the -font signed game because when you insert the game, it takes you to the dash to tell you that its not a valid disc or whatever, and this then loads the fonts.  and also, whenever i turn on my box after leaving a game in there and letting the "invalid disc" window come up on the msdash, after i try to launch the audio hack, the xbox resets.  so here is my conclusion:

- when an invalid disc is inserted in the drive prior to bootup, the audio hack will not work the first time (maybe the font too, i dont know)
- this non-ms-signed disc will cause the "invalid disc" window to come up, thus loading the fonts and rebooting it, then when the "invalid disc" window comes up again, the font hack is launched

people say that their box reboots a couple times when a game is in there so this might be why

then again, i could be (and probably totally am) extremely wrong.

I have Xbox v1.2 with BigFont25 font exploit, PBL 1.3 + X2_4977_BFM_1M
with EvolutionX 3752

My Xbox can't boot from CD/DVD media if I powered up with Disc in tray.
But when I tried to run Crimson Skies and use Evox_D6_EF_BFM_256k instead.
My Xbox can direct boot from Disc, so the Crimson Skies run perfect(Level 1). I tried several CD/DVD Discs and they direct boot and run perfect.

I think : the boot sequences of Xbox
1. When power on with an origin game disc, MS BIOS->check Disc Tray-> Verify
Signed code->run game.
2. When power on with an backup game disc, MS BIOS->check Disc Tray-> Verify
Signed code->hang up and can't run default.xbe.
3. When power on without disc, MS BIOS->check Disc Tray-> Run xboxdash.xbe
->font exploit->load PBL->load BFM BIOS->load EvolutionX

But when I change to Evox_D6_EF_BFM_256k the boot sequences change to:
Power on with an backup disc, MS BIOS->check Disc Tray-> Run xboxdash.xbe
->font exploit->load PBL->load BFM BIOS->Auto run backup game disc
(in Evox.ini I set all autorun off)

Can anyone explain this?
