This thread should be deleted and it's cohorts banned:

1] Slayers does NOT lock the HD. You can easily confirm this with the Config Magic disk.
2] As soon as you swap HD's, any subsequent actions will freeze up other than navigating the menu.
3] There is a risk to hardware attempting this "supposed" technique.

Even if you use Slayers on a hard modded xbox to prepare the drive, it does not appear to prepare the drive properly. I've tried it and used hddlock using the lock code from the backup file. It DOESN'T WORK!

*don't try it
first get the following:

xbox plugged into the internet (any version) the xbox needs to have an exploit installed that boots into pheonix bios loader... that has to load a bios that supports hdd upgrades
hdd (thanks to new hacks up to about 300gb)
torx screw set
slayer's evox auto installer
the pheonix project font exploit
cd/dvd rw

1.first make sure your xbox is soft modded

2.burn the newest slayer's evox auto installer to dvd/cd rw

3.open your xbox and take out the hdd but don't unplug it (http:/
/xbox-scene.com/articles/open1.php)

4.load up an exploit with reset on eject patched

5.insert the cd/dvd rw with slayer's evox auto installer on it that
you just burned

6.load up slayer's evox auto installer

7.press a on "3) rebuild new larger hd on v1.x  system"

8. go to the first option

9. disconnect the xbox hard drive and connect your new hdd to the xbox with the ide and power cables

10.now press A

11.go to main menu then "11) system settings"

12.make sure all the settings are correct, take a note of your ip
adress, then ftp to your xbox user Xbox pass xbox

13.apply the pheonix project fonts exploit (or another exploit booting into pheonix)



NOTES: Make sure to leave your crossover cable connected or have a way of reapplying the game save/audio exploit
through the process. I have the save on my computer but I can't transfer it because the network cable wasn't connected when I started the whole procedure. (help from mouse01)

MY FTP CLIENTS RECOMENDATIONS

mac OS 10.x - the finder or Fetch (hardest OS to use for xbox)
Windows X - Flashfxp
Linux - G - FTP

also can people please post comments on how I can make this tutorial better

ok i am doing this rite now, and afetr i plug in teh new HDD and pop in slayers, it will not run teh dvd, it says its checking teh dvd but i cannot run it.

wouldnt it be better to run slayers, then plug in teh new HDD??

Ok I just did this and it works great. Here is my guide:

Requirements:

MS Dash: 4920
Slayers 2.5
New Hardrive
Modded Xbox


Steps:

1) Boot into EvolutionX
2) Put in Slayers 2.5 and run it
3) Go to #3 in the menu, and select it
4) Select the first option
5) Open XBox, and remove harddrive
6) Plug in new hardrive
7) Press A in Slayer's.
Now wait. It should work

Voila!

Wouldn't it be easier to take the XBOX and drive apart first and then run softmod/Slayer's.  That way, you don't have to turn the XBOX upside down and do all that torx screwing with the power on.  Just a thought.

Just a warning, don't start up the box without the AV cord in if you are using the audio exploit.  This makes for a set back and you must re-apply the 007 AUF game save exploit to get into evox.

how would this work on a softmoded xbox?

I mean, wouldnt the Slayer files simply overwrite the exploit? Making it no longer work?

And when you say "Remove HD" do you mean when the xbox is still ON?

I just cant see how this would work with soft modding??

Hello, after doing this hack i can format it but can't write to the hdd throug ftp,  .

How can this be?? Even after plugging back my original hdd i can't write to that one either.

Is there something i am doing wrong???

When i reset the xbox with the original hdd in it, it works fine.

What about all the locking, unlocking crap, doesn't that need to be done or will this work without doing all that? All i'm looking to do is set up a 40gig with all the hacks and goodies and use the original XBOX hard drive with original files to get on Live with.

1. I think slayer auto locks the hdd when it sets it up

2. I don't know what your problem is with the ftp problems, try a diffrent ftp client
