ok lets see if i can explain this without screwing up -

i already have bert vs ernie with PBL 1.3.5i works fine.
i want to try the mech hack but ONLY as a test. but booting normally to evox, then click the "MS Dash" link and letting the msdash load and see if the hack worked. that way if it dont,, then i can just repair my ms dash and not totally fuck my hard drive.

so i was thinking this.

1)
install PBL 1.3.5i (habibi signed) to e/feenix
2)
install bios of choice to e/feenix/bioses
3)
install bert and ernie to fonts BUT rename them to bert2 and ernie2.
what file do i need to hex edit so i can rename the bert and ernie in the hexeditor. and does anyone have the exact locations of those.?
4)
do i need to install evox into e/feenix or can i just leave my evox on the C drive.

after all that if its looking good i click the ms dash link from inside evox, and IF msdash loads with the hacked link showing., i will then click phoenix, and let PBL load.

does this sound like that is a proper way to test it ? or no?

i have the original mech-evox installer from you know where, is there anything in there that i NEED to install along with the stuff i already have.

could use for the font exploit

makeveli is correct they did warn us that if your dash isnt updated it wont work.

but as you see xboxhakur is testing other dashes too.

so lets just wait and see what the final product is.

OK, I have tested 5 versions of dashboards and so far all is good. I still need help verifying versions and files though.
Please check this thread and add anything not already there (corrections too).

Since nobody gave me any negative feedback, I'm going ahead with forcing the backup first.

*cough* It looks like it works w/ 5 diff versions

I think people are misinterpreting what he is saying. I don't think he is saying the FONTS will work with 5 different dashes, he is saying the INSTALLER will work with 5 different dashes. The installer, if I have read his posts right, will replace your dash with the proper one.

ok i can go for that, but by replacing the dash your screwing your Live, for anyone who uses live. and has a newer dashboard.

isnt that correct ?
wont live screw up now since the dash is older yet live is newer.

i just want to possibly run it as an app before i do anything perminant. so i know it works.

but with all this hard work and testing its unfortunate that all it is , is the audio/font hack with pbl..
again dont get me wrong i love the whole idea of it,, but if you have a working exploit already switching to this really isnt going to offer any advantages,,, that i know of,, if there are advantages, im all ears.

The font exploit uses a programming weakness in the 4817 & 4290 Dashboards.  Advantage: It automatically seizes control of the XBOX when the Dashboard booted from hard disk.  Disadvantage: Leave you open to the 'clock loop' experienced on some XBOXs

The audio exploit uses a weakness in the 4290 Dashboard.  Advantage & disadvantage: It seizes control only when the operator presses a sequence of 8 buttons.

The new MechInstaller-exox is a font exploit that attempts to merge the advantages of the 2 exploits.  No clock loop, and only a single button press to seizes control.

All the exploits above will allow you to run backup games, from either DVD or HDD, however neither will allow you to use game backups to play on XBOX!Live (original DVDs must be used).

One little question, do you NEED mechassault? I only have 007 auf. Can I just FTP the needed files over to my c: and e: drive and will the exploit work???

I think you DO for the linux install, as it needs tp update the M$ dash..

but im not sure, and I reccon mech is a better game than 007, I have many FPSs already!
