biggrin.gifs...

yes, you will need to rename the original xbox.xtf and xbox book.xtf to another name, but by default, just rename the extension of those to file to ".xft" instead of .xtf since you will have to rename the bert and ernie font file to those two file...

now, rename bert.xtf to xbox.xtf and ernie.xtf to xbox book.xtf and put it in the same directory as those two original font that you have rename to the extension ".xtf"

you will also have to put the default.xbe to the same place where you put the two font at...

same thing here, those step aren't stated in the tutorials so can anyone edit the original tutorials for the font hack... i meant, the tutorials is god darn it unclear and sux hehe biggrin.gifs...

I will try to make a tutorial for the font hack which is much clearer than the original font hack tutorials but i haven't got my xbox ship to me yet biggrin.gifs...

If you're trying to install the MechInstaller-EvoX 'Pheonix' Fonts look at my tutorial - otherwise try another thread.

Basically, rename your original fonts to Xbox book.bak and Xbox.bak and copy over bert.xtf and ernie.xtf - you don't even have to rename them. Simple.

lanvo - please stop giving incorrect advice! That is not only for the old Bert and Ernie/Reloaded/Bigfonts and not these, but that's not 100% correct as well! It's getting boring correcting you!

You don't want to rename xbedump - you want to get it to run. Rename it back to xbedump.exe then find it in Windows Explorer and create a shortcut for it. Then right click on the shortcut and click "properties" - the shortcut tab at the top should be selected. At the end of the "Target" textbox enter " default.xbe -habibi". It should now create out.xbe

It should be "xbedump default.xbe -habibi" as well

The mechfonts NEED the original fonts to have the extension of .bak or your Xbox will no longer boot to the dashboard and will result in and endless loop.

Ok, I'll ask....

I'm puzzled why anonymous's release of Mechinstaller-evox appears a bit half hearted.

Decrypting the Mechinstaller fonts - undoubtedly took significant skill,
Swapping the proprietary Mechinstaller signature for the Habbi signature - took intermediate skill,
Removing the redundant checks for the Linux intermediate files (VMLinux, etc.) -  would only take intermediate skill,
Removing the XBE name check (TUX!Linux) -  would only take intermediate skill.

If the objective was to create Mechinstaller-style fonts, solely for running Evolution-X (as the name of the release implies), why stop half way???

Curious.

Full credit to Xboxhakur for the perseverance in figuring out all the gotch'ya's.

I let my Xbox have the clock loop by unplugging it. The clock bug still exists in a form - my Xbox reset twice - but it let me set the clock after only 2 attempts. I'd say that the clock bug is pretty much fixed!

So you can just set the clock using the dashboard? That means it's fixed. If my box loops (with bigfonts) It just keep resetting over and over. And I never get to set the clock...

With this exploit, the dash is always reached. Instead of loading an unsigned xbox executable, these fonts load a hex edited dash with the option of clicking the xbox live tab and launching evox.
The problem with Bigfonts and others like it, is that when it trys to execute the xbe, it searches through the remnents of the dashboard...except when the clock setting option occurs the data that it needs to launch the xbe is gone. But sometimes before the menu to set the clock can launch, the fonts are executed. To me, this sounds like maybe slower HDD's have the advantage of not executing that menu so quickly. But then again, the above statement about bigfonts is speculation from me.

P.S, i have a theory that might work so we dont have to go through this clicking live stuff is this:

Have the font (after it overflows) to search for anything related to the clock. Then if it finds something, hex edit the dashboard and command a warm boot (or quick boot). This way you arent executing anything big that would give the clock menu more time to load, and this code would be quite small. But you know, this again is speculation from a non-coder who spends his time reading about coders problems  jester.gif  pop.gif .

Here is whats going on with my setup, when i first load pheonix up (threw modified dash and fonts) after turning it off (not unplugging it), it partialy loads the dash (Loop ??) (just shows green lines), so i turn off the xbox then turn it back on, and sometimes it loads (the modified dash and fonts) and sometimes it doesnt, so i do it agian and it always seems to load this time (the second time), this has been happening now for the past day, it seems like i am always experiencing the loop EVERYTIME i turn it off for a while, has this happend to anyone else ?? or am i the only unlucky bastard to have this happen to constantanly?? I still prefer this setup to any of the others right now, but its kinda getting anoyying having to turn my xbox on then off then back on everytime, so i am gonna mess araound with a few diffrent versions of the mechinstaller fonts floating around (i currently am using the ones from nailed on page 7 of this thread),
