Quick Question About Hd Passwords
« on: September 25, 2003, 10:04:00 AM »

basically try them if it boots locked with one password its correct for your xbox if it gives error 5 or 6 or someshit its the wrong pass so unlock it with same password and then lock with the other one.

live info should calculate a new password everytime you do it i think so i doubt you will get the same pass twice but if it is for definate your eeprom.bin the pass will work.

Actually with a given drive and eeprom, liveinfo should give the same pass every time.

Evox sometimes gives BAD passwords... Trust LiveInfo!

Oh and the Evox password is for your CURRENT drive, not the new one!

Live info is telling you the password the Xbox will try to use. So if you use the password from liveinfo, thats the right one.

The password is calculated. The Xbox figures out the password using info in the eeprom and the physical characteristics of the drive (SN, etc.). This is why every drive and every code is unique to the xbox it was made for.

Quick Question About Hd Passwords

well liveinfo didnt work for me it gave me all the wrong hd keys. i couldnt get my xbox hd to unlock with the hd pass from liveinfo and i made sure that i was 110% it was the right pass and no typos, so then i put the xbox hd back in my box and loaded up config magic and got the hd pass from there and the config magic pass worked. so i cloned my xbox drive to my new hd and locked it with the password that i got from livelinfo put it in and got error 6 then i unlocked my new hd and relocked it with the pass that i got from config magic for my orig xbox hd and still got error 6. anyone have ideas of what i have done wrong? ps. my xbox still works fine its just i would like to upgrade the hd. thanks

You must be using the wrong value from LiveInfo. I have done four boxes now, revs 1.0-1.3 and live info never did me wrong.

You are loading your eeprom, then selecting the new drive in liveinfo correct?

And just to state again, any password generated using you OLD drive is useless as the pass is unique to the drive/xbox combo!

loading up a hacked bios will obviously use a different eeprom, so the lock code will be different surely?

Your confused between TSOP and EEPROM.  Your XBOX has one of each.
The 1MB Flash RAM TSOP in your XBOX contains the BIOS.  These are hacked.  PBL allows you to replace the RAM shadow copy of the TSOP BIOS with a hacked BIOS of your choosing.

The EEPROM in your XBOX is tiny, and only contains your XBOX serial number, etc. It is not changed by any of the exploits, PBL, etc.  BUT is used to calculate the HDD password.

Pedro.
PS. You can change the contents of the EEPROM (Toolz do exist), but you wouldn't do this without a very good reason.

It shouldn't be running any slower. But it may have something to do with the type of drive you used.

Some drives have buffering in them. The XBox HD has an 8mb buffer I think. I use WD drives that aslo have the 8mb buffer and have not noticed any speed issues. What type/model drive did you use?

Quantums should be fast.... HMMMM.... It may have something to do with the MUCH smaller buffer in this drive....
