About A New Hard Drive...
« on: September 22, 2003, 05:59:00 PM »

Well my old xbox hdd is fried... smoke came out of it.... scary... anyways.. im getting a new hdd today cause people said that would be the best way. i have my eeprom.bin file and i would use lifeinfo2, it sounds good right? well i just thought of something since it would be a new hdd i would want to restore my backed up image to it... but how could hdd driver restore the image if its not an xbox hdd? or does there just need to be any hdd plugged into my dvd or cd ide cable? sounds a little weird to me...

umm ok i just tried putting the hdd into my pc... but its unformatted, so do i have to format this for it to work? when i went to manage under my computer it didnt say that there was a drive there. the hdd was plugged into my dvd's IDE cable. i already tried running liveinfo and it said there was nothing in any of my physical drives exept for 0 which is just my pc's hdd.. but i think before with my old hdd ( the one that smoke came out of) i think i might have put it in my cd IDE cable and it worked but not in the dvd's IDE cable... hmmm.. maybe i'll try putting it in my cd IDE cable tommorow... but right now im tired. so good night

Use HDDPreparer13 then format "only 1st 4096 sectors of partitions" make sure you select ur newHDD and not the PC on.Then use hdd-driver then restore image to newHDD that should work.THen use LiveInfo to generate new password or calculate.

Not the greatest of answers around here.  Use xhdprepa from windows.  Zero just the first 4096 sectors.  Shouldn't take more than 5 seconds.  Make sure you choose the right drive.  After you do this, use HDD-Driver to restore the image.  Ignore any error messages you get.

The drive can be unformatted, that's fine.  That's the way it should be anyhow - doesn't matter if you do format it though.  Xhdprepa gets rid of that.

By the way, just hook the new HD on it's OWN cable.  Doesn't matter if it's secondary or primary, just NOT SLAVE.

Download hddunlock from the usual places.  Boot into dos with any sort of boot disk.  Run hdlock.exe and use the key from liveinfo.  This should lock it fine, and then just pop it in the xbox, simple as that!

If you get the error "No XBox HDD Detected" or something like that, use Hex WorkShop or some other Sector Editor and put the chars BRFR at location 0x600 on the blank drive. Then you will be able to restore your backup.
