It appears that the only way to exploit at this point is to use MA/007 to load the pheonix loader.

However, you will not be able to eject the DVD tray.

For now, M$ has beat the no mod exploits.

However, I don't think most people with exploits were interested in XBL.  So simply, DO NOT DOWNLOAD the update.

And don't let future games do it, either.

EDIT: Ironic that they choose Sept. 11th to tear down the two main exploits, eh?

After making the fan run ar 12v, i booted up the now louder Xbox. But i couldnt get in to evoX (using Audio Exploit, still nfi why that happened). for some reason i went to XBL. it updated. then the error message was a bit different. I took the box to a mates place, booted in to evoX with the 007 Exploit (which does still work) and copied his c: to mine.

ahhhh back to normal. am going to stay away from the BXL menu smile.gif

We will be tryalling the font hack tomorrow after work with some 20gb drives. making it load pheonix bios.

will fill ya in on how we went.

Curious , what files did you copy over from your friends xbox? Just the old dash? or all files , woulnd't some files not work due to h/w differentials such as bios version , etc..

it is my understanding that if you load msdash it'll download it anyway.. --Bikr

Not the case.  The old dashes have NO network connections built-in.  As long as you have a pre XBL 2.0 dash, it will have no way of knowing that there is a new XBL/dash, and it can certainly not d/l it without you going into the XBL option from the dash.

However, if you have the new dash, then yes it is able to go online automatically, unless you tell it not to.

No.  There isn't.

Best option is to take the xodash directory on the C drive and rename it, say to 1xodash.

Then, you still have the new dash, but XBOXLIVE does not show up as an option.

Considering some people (like me) don't use live, they probably won't do that.

This dash seems to be geared toward Live users (Duh, it does come from live). But from the descriptions, I DON'T want to log on to thier service where I don't use it, don't want a buddies list or whatever else it has... Hell, I don't even want a live button.

I don't think this dash is going to go to the general user, though they can require it for live users.

I disagree.  I think it WILL go to the average user.

M$ has brought the current exploits to a screaming halt with this new dash.

Most likely, they will make future games only playable with this dash.

Unless, of course, they figure that it will just get cracked anyway.

In which case, they will just continue to harm the ones they need most to thrive: XBOXlive users.

hmmm
but if they made future games require the dash, couldnt we just ftp them to a pc and apply some kind of patch disabeling the updatedash-beeing-needed-thingie?

they would actually encourage fontusers to make backups of these games then.

Anyway, in the worst case ill just flash my tsop

If M$ requires all future games to use the new dash, & include in all future software, there would have to be some kind of backwards-compatibility involved, so the old games wouldn't crap out when the disc sees something unexpected (the new dash).

That being said, backwards-compatibility would leave some kind of opening for a modified exploit, theoretically, right?

I think MS is only concerened about keeping the modding community as far away as possible from LIVE. It seems like it would be a real waste of effort force every future game to update the MS dash and could end up causing them a lot more poblems than it is ever worth. For people who don't use live this update has absolutely no effect on them and I for one would be suprised if MS forced a patch of the dashboard in future games.

You're wrong, just wait and see.  Future games will depend on Live 2.0.  This is MS's premiere marketing tool (Live 2.0) and they want to make sure EVERYONE sees it so they can hopefully attract new customers.  They will force the 2.0 dash on users.

i cant imagine it updating automatically. without the user pressing a button or anything.
i updated my dash using splinter cell, and its something that takes more then just a few seconds iirc

whats more, during the update you cant turn off your xbox or have any powerbreakdowns or anything like that. So it'd have to ask you if you would like to start the update now or smt at least, as itd risk screwing the xbox if the update got interupted.

yup... they can do that indeed.
the question is, will they, and if so, will it be possible to fool the game into thinking the dash is updated when it isnt, or will it be possible to patch the game so it doesnt look for the updated dash.

they wont force customers to update dash via a game, as games dont need the dash to run they just require the hardware, if they had to update the dash via a games disc then MS would have to enter agrements with various software houses, this would take a long time to iron out, as the software companies would fear a lose in revenue of there own games, as a lot of people would not buy the game if it updated without choice, and the software houses would have to carry out quality checks on the software, and this would make the games development more expensive for the software companie, so what if the companies dont agree then what can MS do, if that was the case they would add software to check for mods, bigger harddrives, flashed tsops, etc etc, they know about the font exploit and how it worked so they stopped it because they could, the reason they did not stop the game save exploit is because it would affect to many games and original legal use of game saves, so they didn't, the exploit was simple to solve because it did not relie on being signed now it does simple,

when my dashboard got messed up it give the error message but once a game was inserted it booted up straight into the game, the dashboard is there for extra features etc. So if MS wanted to autoupdate the xbox via games it would cause serious mayhem within the games developers houses and they would refuse and then maybe just make games for ps2 etc.
