really?  Do I have to use liveinfo for that or anything?

Nope.  It's an Xbox program.  You then just select "Unlock HDD" from the menu...and that's it.  It can be used the same way to lock a drive.  It's available from Xbins.

To use unlockx you need to use liveinfo and load your eeprom.bin file from your xbox (get this from doing backup in evox, and ftping the files onto your computer)

Then when you have the eeprom loaded, then (make sure you have your new HD attatched to computer) and select the drive in the lower part of liveinfo.  That will give you your new drives key.  Write that down.

Then just make a bootdisk to DOS (can do this by formatting in WinXP) and add all the files from unlockx to the floppy.  Reboot computer with floppy in drive, then just use dos commands to run the program (ie. just type unlockx), select your drive, and type in your key.

Or if you are trying to unock your original xbox HD, then just use liveinfo, grab the key from the top of the window, and use that one with your xbox hd connected to your computer.  However, i have heard of people not being able to relock their HD once unlocked.....so do this at your own risk!!!

Wouldn't you need a modded BIOS/chip to be able to access the drive to run ConfigMagic in the first place?

Anyways, make sure you have your EEPROM file and your current HD key before you use ConfigMagic to unlock your drive, just in case.

Then when you have the eeprom loaded,

where do you load it? what do you load it with.  I see that statement often and I am completely lost to what you load the eeprom with.

Dindas,
Back to unlockx.  So I want to first unlock the original xbox hd so that I can copy it to my new hdd.  So I do what you said at the bottom of your post.  I also copy down the info for the new hdd that you told me liveinfo would say.  I copy my drive using winhex and then use unlockx again to lock my new hdd with the code liveinfo generated.  Does that sound right?

Alright Poon, open up liveinfo....

See that button on the bottom that says load eeprom?  Click it!!  then open the eeprom.bin file in the backup dir on your computer.  Then it should load all the info on the top of the program.

Hope that helps!!  beerchug.gif

Wait a minute...  Can you access the hard drive if you're using the retail BIOS and the drive isn't locked?  Does the BIOS check to make sure that the drive is locked first before letting you do anything?  I always thought that it would give you an error screen, but now that I think about it, that may not be true.
