Phoenix Loader Question!
« on: August 23, 2003, 04:51:00 PM »

Alright, still can't get this to load.  I'll post what i've done so far and see if anyone can think of anything wrong.  First i'll list off what i am using.

Xbox Ver. 1.1 (not like it matters i don't think)
bert-ernie-big-font-green-light
EvolutionX_V1_8_3752
PhoenixBiosLoaderV1.3.rar

Alright, i have done this:

-renamed the 2 files in the font dir. from .xtf to .xft

-put in the ernie and bert files into the font dir.

-took the xboxdash.xbe file from the C: and edited it with a hex editor, and changed all the xtf to xft.

-copied the xboxdash.xbe from the Evox folder and put it on the C: of the XBox HD along with the evox.ini file  ( i didn't rename it or anything, just stuck it there)

-put the newly edited xboxdash.xbe onto the Xbox e: (since my Evox.ini file points to it there)

-copied over boot.cfg, default.xbe, phoenix.raw, and the entire phoenixboot directory all onto the c: of the Xbox. ( i didn't do anything with RC4 Key, i read that it does it automatically on first bootup...is this right?)

So then i boot up my Xbox, it will boot off games (more then i was getting before hehe), but i still keep getting Error 13!  I have no idea what i am doing wrong now and i'm about to throw this XBox out of the window.......

Someone PLEASE help me and tell me what i'm doing wrong!!  I have read something about signing stuff (but i read the Phoenix Loader makes it so you don't have to), maybe something about the RC4 Key (but i read with Phoenix loader 1.3 you don't need to worry about this.)

So if someone could PLEASE let me know what i'm doing wrong and point me in the right directoin to get this going??  I'm begging at this point....LOL

Thanks in advance!!!   pop.gif

first off, you dont need that phoenixboot folder, that is all the source code for the program.  second off, if you downloaded the complete signed pheonix bios loader off of xbins, then you do not need to add anything to the boot.cfg file (meaning RC4 key) seing as it is already *complete*.  if you did not download the complete signed version of this bios loader, then you WILL need to edit and add to your boot.cfg file (RC4 key EEPROM).

also, when you hexedited your xboxdash.xbe, you didn't save it and overwrite the original one in the C:\ did you?  if you did, then that is a HUGE problem.  make sure you have a virgin xboxdash.xbe in your C:\

yeah, if you have the signed loader, the phoenix file you downloaded will have the word "signed" in it.  if that isn't any help, open up your boot.cfg file in a text editor and see if you have a valid RC4 key in there.  a valid RC4 will NOT look like this:

0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00

if you have this as your RC4 key, then you do not have the complete package

EDIT: alright, just saw your edit, that should fix the problem because a BFM (boot from media) bios will now load without a valid RC4 key

Well, tried all that and still getting Error 16.  About to dump original backup on, and start fresh with new signed loader and see what happens....so frustrating..LOL

c drive shoud have Xboxdash.xbe
your evox.ini
evoxdash.xbe
and other couple of files that i dont remeber tongue.gif
What I did was use PBL 1.3 signed as an app...just put it in your E: directory (Create a folder for it)
then, link it to your EVOX menu and BAM!
Oh wait...u dont get error 21, u get error 16 :S Error 21 is when something isnt signed...
dunno then :S

So, doesn anyone know what it means when the screen just sits at a green screen??  It doesn't seem like it is the clock loop, cause it isn't restating or anything.

It boots up to the xbox splash screen, the white MS shows up underneath, then the screen goes green.
