Tutorial To Set Up Reloaded Fonts

Complete Tutorial to install the Bert and Ernie Reloaded Fonts and the Phoenix Bios Loader. (With a working MS Dash)
-------------------------------------------------

To do this you will need a way to FTP into your XBOX, or use some other way of editing files on your XBOX hard drive. Also you will have to find the downloads yourself. And always make backups of your files!!

Step 1) Download the following items……
a ) Bert and Ernie Reloaded fonts
   b ) Signed Phoenix Bios Loader 1.3
c ) A Hex editor of some sort. I used Hackman Hex Editor

Step 2) Setting up the Fonts……
a ) FTP in into your XBOX and go to the fonts folder in the C drive.
b ) Put bert.xtf and ernie.xtf into the fonts folder.
C ) In the same folder, rename XBox Book.xtf and XBox.xtf so both of them have a .xft                 extension.

Step 3) Setting up the Phoenix Bios Loader……
a ) FTP into you XBOX and go to the root of the C drive.
b ) put all the files from the Signed Phoenix Bios Loader in to the root of the C drive.

Step 4) Setting up the MS Dashboard……
a ) FTP your xboxdash.xbe to your PC.
b ) Open it with a Hex Editor.
c ) Open up the search function, enter “xtf” as the string to search for (without the                 quotes). Make sure you select Unicode mode and ASCII mode.
d ) now every instance of xtf, change to xft. It will have spaces in between each letter, leave them alone.
e ) Now rename it to something like xftdash.xbe and upload it to the root of the C drive.
f ) Make a link to it in your evox.ini.
g ) Check that everything is correct before rebooting. If everything is in order, Reboot your XBOX and enjoy.

If you are going to run it after PBL, then it is sufficient

pheonix bios loader loads up a hacked bios, which then allows unsigned code

ok, i followed everything exactly as stated...and i still cannot get the ms dash to boot up.  when i try hex editing my xboxdash.xbe, i get 2 hits and change those two xtf's to xft's.  i upload it to my c drive as msxboxdash.xbe....and when i try running it...my xbox just reboots itself.  i've tried over and over and still get the same result.  can someone please tell me what's wrong?  thanks

edit: oh yea, i already have bert, ernie, and phoenix bios loader installed and working.  the only thing that isn't working is the ms dash cuz it reboots when i try selecting it within boxplorer, evox, or media x menu.

make sure you renamed your original fonts to xft in your fonts folder, and i also think there should be two more instances of xtf in your xboxdash.xbe file, they are either unicode or ASCII, you probably only changed the ASCII

actually i think it might depend on what dashboard he has.

if you have 4920 then you have 4 instances, otherwise i think you have 2.

btw, he must have the 4920 because he said he followed your tutorial and everything worked, and your tutorial uses the 4920 dash (hints the font folder).  whatever, i dont know lol

I dont think that someone can send you the xbox live update..without actually sending you the xboxdash and font files (HUGE).  I would just try upgrading with a different game (splinter cell ?).  But make sure that when you upgrade that you dont actually have a connection to the internet, just a valid connection of any sort on both ends of your ethernet cable

like this:

[ X ] <----------------> {:}
xbox                         modem or hub/router with no internet connection

i'm warning you to do this incase M$ has an update of some kind

cant be too careful ph34r.gif

No I don't think that's the case because editing your original xboxdash.xbe will render your dashboard unusable, and his worked with phoenix bios loader and everything else.  Hey jaxx, are you updating with a backup? or with an original game?

the fonts always set the clock to that date opon bootup.

tis is to stop the endless loop of rebooting if you leave your xbox unplugged and you clock gets screwed up.

in a way its a good thing, but rather annoying.

Ok, this tutorial assumes you allready have ftp access to the box - meaning it is allready hacked one way or another...?

I did the hd hotswap with BICoE and also got my original dash working via EvoX menu (see hd contents here).
So, do I have anything to gain by "upgrading" to the reloaded ernie & berts? I mean, is there more than the clock-fix, which I can live without since the box is always connected??
