Well, unfortunatly ConfigMagic doesn't like hotswaps. After hotswapping the drive it says thet the drive isn't lockable and doesn't show any of the drive info...

Oh well, it was worth a try.

Just locked it with UnlockX and all is well.

ok probably being realy stupid but done this twice already.

Followed the 28 step guide to installing a larger HDD.
I even did it slow just to make sure i wouldn't make any mistakes!!!

Anyways my problem occurs when i put the HDD into the Xbox

I get a 06 your box requires service message.

As i've said followed the instructions to the letter and can't for the life of me figure out were i've gone wrong.

The Xbox HDD was succesfully unlocked
cloning was also successful (used winhex)
locking both the xbox hdd and the new hdd also succeded
(checked to make sure they were locked with aditional reboot)
Lockable : locked was the message.

The only thing i can think of is posibly the hdd key

when in Liveinfo i saved scrolled down to the Maxttor HDD and saved the details it provided into a cfg file.
did i choose the correct hdd?
should i have chosen the xbox hdd and saved its info?

Oh yeah and i nearly forgot to mention the Original Xbox Hdd is back in and functioning as normal.

please help.

OK, I want to install a larger hard drive in my xbox. I'm using the audio hack and I'm using a pc with Windows 98se, can it be done? I know liveinfo doesn't work on a 98se computer, what is a substitute for this program. Is this even possible with my set up? I can't afford to purchase a windows upgrade and I don't know anyone with a mod chip xbox. Any info. would be appreciated, Thanks in advance

Use the format commands in evox FTP. There is a tutorial for this which I believe the link is posted in this thread.

I put in a 20gb (its all we had lying around) last nite with a mate, but when using his original Xbox HDD, he gets an error 06. we think we re-locked the original drive with the wrong key, but UnlockX wouldnt unlock it when we gave it the same key. We tried the Hot swap in config magic, but yeah, jaust as Morden said, "Locked - Drive isnt lockable" ??

Oh well, at least the 20gb HDD works with it

UnLockX stores the key you used in a text file. Check it make sure you didn't type it wrong. Also, when you unlock it, be sure to do it twice, even if it said it didn't unlock it the first time.

Winhex gives me some errors like you drive may be seriously damiged and such and you cannot recover and such it there a resons why?

Hi all, I'm having some problems with this and I really hope you can help me out.

I'm using the ma exploit on a version 1 pal xbox, Ive followed the tutorial and everything seemed to have gone well except that when I put the new hardrive in I got a 6 error. So I tried putting the original one back in and now still get the same 6 error.

The original drive is locked back up and it says lockable and locked. Its also on cable select.

Another thing is that after locking up my new drive I can no longer unlock it with the new key I generated in liveinfo.

Please help!

are you sure that you are typing the keys correct they are CASE senstive so make sure you enter them right.

i agree sounds like a possible bad key but as for the error 6 when you put in the original hd i have no clue what error 6 is but it dont sound good you may have damaged the ide cable., try another ide cable

ultra66 or ultra 100 ultra 100 does give a slight data speed increase but not that much.

im pretty sure this site has a listing of what error 6 is,

OK, let me get this right:

Does it have to be Winhex? Can another tool be used? Such as ghost?
unlockx
I assume this can be got from the 'usual place'
Dos boot disc (with unlockX)
Any old boot disk?
Software exploit preinstalled on original hard drive (see other tutorials)
I will be using AUDIO
Some of these apps can be found in the usual places.

1. Connect the new drive to your computer as primary slave.
Leave your main computer HDD on primary master.

Check, on the SAME IDE Cable

2. Copy unlockx.exe to your dos boot disc

I use a tool called Dr Dos, anyone tried this?

3. Disconnect your main computer's harddrive and connect your orig. xbox drive as primary master.

OK, so now we have the new HD and the xbox HD on the same IDE Cable

4. Use unlockX to unlock your original harddrive (see other tutorials)

Check, I assume this is rather simple

5. reconnect the computer's original drive as primary master and connect your orig. xbox drive as secondary slave.

OK, now the drive is unlocked, we want to boot into windows, both drives are now on different IDE Cables..

6. boot into windows and open winhex. At the top of the program click tools, then disk tools, then disk clone. Pick your original XBOX HDD as source and the new drive as destination. They can be found under physical drives. Make sure you check copy entire source disk and pick 0 for starting sector. click ok.

Sounds simple enough, Ghost has a similer tool, and seen as I dont have WinHex....

7. After winhex is done copying reboot with your dos floppy and use unlockX to lock the new drive (see other tutorials).

Again, I assume this is rather simple

8. Configure evox to format your F: drive

Cool..

Right! Thats clear now, Im off now to find some unlockx tutorials...

What brand drive is it? It sounds like the drive might be damaged. If possible try relocking with config magic. If that doesn't work you might need a modchip to get it working again. If you have a modded drive, you can find a cheap small hard drive 8 or more gigs. Then clone it with the modded drive. Lock and boot the new drive with the xbox then use a program like boxplorer to replace the fonts and delete the exploit. Now you have a stock HD. It is always VERY useful to keep your stock HD as a backup in case you get a clockloop.

hey, i'm using winhex 11.15 full version and i try to copy my original xbox hd to my new 80 gig maxtor, and i did EVERYTHING right, but winhex gives me a warning, then when i try to copy it says it is unable to read sectors or something. live info says everything is unlocked, too. should i try a different version of winhex? i dont know what to do. has anyone had similar problems? thanks

EDIT: switched to a different version of winhex and its cloning as we speak
