technically if MS plays their cards right they could make a TEMPORARY fix for this exploit. and yes it does make sense.

Yes they could,, do a Temp fix, just like they could do a temp fix for mod chips, someone would have to make a new bios to fix it for a modchip, or someone would have to hack a dash.  Mod chips offer NO advantage.

ok tell me this if i have evox, games, linux and  apps on the f drive with my mod chip turned off. how will ms be able to tell i have a mod?

with the mod off the xbox cant see the f drive my c and e drive are default!

and as for mod chips being dead come back in 3 weeks and say that i think ms would have worked very very hard on this new dash update

Don't you think MS have the skills to write an app to patch the kernel so it can see the F: drive. LOL. They dont even need to write it, the sources are available.

How about just looking at the partition table.
Or your HDD model number (unless you're happy with the 2Gigs on the stock drive).

MS could have killed modchips a long time ago.
They havent.

I'm sure they will fix the font exploit with future dashboards, but i'm not going to install any tongue.gif.

There will always be a way into the box with the game save exploits or an earlier dash. Once you're in there are bound to be more "Bugs" to be exploited (especially with a new version with new functions).

I dont think modchips are dead. They are still the most stable solution. But not everyone needs to buy one anymore.

What kind of fix could MS do that someone with a backup of their working/exploited drive can't recover from?  It's a simple proposition.  What are you confused about?

- user has exploited system.
- ms comes out with a game and in the game, they quietly make the exploit not work.
- gamer's exploited xbox does not work.
- Gamer puts hard drive in his PC whipes out the system partition and recopies his backup of the exploit.
- gamer puts drive back in his xbox and does not reinstall the game in question til he finds out what went wrong.

PROBLEM SOLVED.  For current game, that caused the problem, a crack or bios upgrade will be out in days.

What don't you understand about this?  Give me a scenerio where MS can do something that the exploiter can not recover from.

dont get me wrong i'm not saying ms can't stop mods i'm just saying mods are alot better. take the font hack ok it works now but what do think will happen when the dash update looks for them files you renamed? it could nuke the c drive like when people had the evoxdash set to xboxdash.  sure even if i had my mod chip off with the default 8 gig drive ms could find a way to tell if i have ever used a mod and ban me even if the mod is off but thats all hear say. i'm not saying this because i have a mod and i'm pissed off cos i payed out for a chip i'm saying this because of  what i have seen. so plz dont say mods are dead just think to your self why are people still useing hardware mods when they could just use a free software mod. thank you

i think you're right enig..they can only offer a TEMPORARY solution for this..ie.untill you just restore your backups  jester.gif

Well, me I don't play nearly enough games to do it myself.  I personally have a retail xbox and a retail KOTOR these days.  But for those doing the exploit, I'm just sayin I don't see anything they can do that a user can't reverse if they backed up.

Well I had a Xbox die from a Enigma Modchip that got a cold solder joint, my friends Xbox died when he transported his matrix modded xbox to his friends house and it scratched the motherboard.  So atleast this Software mod cant permanently damage a Xbox like a mod chip can, my buddy with the matrix, now all his Xbox does is the dredded 3 reboots.

it can if you know how too screw it up or don't ever hot-swap

So my thinking is, if there's a game you want to play after this update, just wait a day or so and check the forum to see if anyone has gotten nuked yet...  If no one has said anything after a day or two, you should be fine...  No worries...  smile.gif

Somebody tell me what is the thinking here that is making some of you be all cautious about the exploit and not the mod chip?  Sure MS can detect the exploit.  They can chose to kill your system or heck, they could clear out the exploit and turn your HD back into a retail or trash it.  Their choice.  What makes some of you think they can't do it with a mod chip>  I believe MS has already demonstrated their ability to detect a modchip.  Anybody seeking a demonstration of this ability can purchase an xbox live kit and sign up for service.  You won't be playing long before your xbox is banned.  But yet, if you have an unmodded xbox in your house, you can still play xbox live just fine.  A mod chip is just as easy to detect as a software exploit.  So, if there's a good reason for anyone with sense to like a modchip better than a software exploit, then it ought not be MS's ability to detect and counter because they can do one as easily as the other.

WHY DON'T THEY?
sIMPLE.  There are people out there who would crack it in like 20 minutes..  These people won't attempt to hack xbox live however because I'm sure they don't want to deal with the police.  So, apparentely for now, MS has chosen to only exercise mod chip detection and denial of gameplay on xbox live - a place where crackers and hackers can't exploit.  And even there, they have opted not to touch a single file on your hard drive.  They simply ban your xbox which would appear to be a taste of MS's retaliation to all of you who are modded one way or another.  It doesn't seem to be vengeful - just a simple access denied.

That was my whole point exactly, I never said MS couldn't do anything about the exploit.  But I was just saying it would be just as easy for MS to detect a modchip as a exploit and do something about it.
