i don't know why you have to jump to conclusions, it's a new version of the dashboard, big whoop, it doesn't mean anything.

mod-chips have been arounf for years and MS has never done any updates to disable them, even though all it would take is a simple HD Size check to bust the majority of modders.

Besides, if you really want the new dashboard, why not copy the xbe to your e drive, or whatever, change evoX to point to that. That way the font hack would still work, and you could launch the newer dash from within evoX.

That's ASSUMING they're even gonna fix the exploit. Which I doubt.

MS can do very little to stop modchips which is why they are seen to actually do very little.  You mention a simple HD size check.. the modchip bios writers could very simply make the chip report the correct info needed to pass that check.  Modchips are next to impossible to rule out.

The current 2 exploits based on the dashboard are something they can stop though, at least till another is found, which no doubt will happen.

Whether you want the new dashboard or not, MS may require a game to check which version of the dashboard you do have, and either force you to upgrade to it, or the game wont run.

EDIT:  All pure speculation of course, so no need to get on your high horse.

Sounds like MS have fixed the expoilts and will make all games released from 25th require the update to work regardless (a simple check of the filesize/hash will do).

sad.gif

Actually....it doesn't sound like that at all.  No where in that article do they state that all games released after the 25th will be Xbox Live Aware.  In fact, it implies the opposite:
"Once a lot of games use Xbox Live Aware, you'll wonder what you ever did without it"

Sounds to me like MS is hoping to gain developer support, but that may or may not happen.

Modchips are as easily stoppable as the dashboard exploits.  MS has already proven that they have the technology to detect if you have one installed.  If they really wanted to, they could have stopped us by now.  Even the bios developers cannot get around that.

The only reason that MS would have more interest in stopping the dashboard exploit is because it makes modding an xbox safer and easier.  Other than that though, the exploits and the modchips are one in the same and are both easily detectable and easily preventable.

the only way i see that they can stop it is if they make all new games not boot without this version of the dashboard, which is highly unlikely, anyways, this new dash has probably been in development for quite sometime by MS, as with anything they release, not to say they cant incorporate such a checksum on the font files......even then, modchips would still work to play the ~300 games that are already out for xbox smile.gif

i really can't see MS forcing you to install a certain dashbpard in order to play a certain game, there's no way. It's your machine, you paid $80 for a game, and they have no right to force you to install anything.

Hell you just paid $80, there's no way they can force you to install something on YOUR OWN MACHINE, when you just paid 80 bones for it. You will be able to play any game, no matter what version dashboard you have.

That's my guess.

UKP must be upset his modchip is useless or maybe that he has some on his hands he cant sell now.  If they make a new Dashboard that is required to play games, which I doubt they will, it would just get hacked anyways, I dont see the big deal.

Sounds to me like talk from owners of garageloads of chips.  smile.gif  Look.  If you don't go on xbox live, there's not a lot MS can do.  They generally try to circumvent and then people crack the circumventions.  This has happened before and it'll most likely happen again.  Worst case senerio, a game comes out and will auto-fix your dashboard.  That's when a gamer with the dash exploit would simply restore their old hard drive from a backup, go to x-s to see why this happpened, and dl a bios or patch.  We've heard this "MS will do such-and-such" from day one and they have but it's just been cat and mouse.  So, until something revolutionary happens, modchips are dead.    If someone comes up with a new chip that plays on XBL, that will be then.  But for what you can buy now, modchips are dead.  They were great.  They made a lot of people happy and their designers did a lot for the scene but just like everything else that evolves, their time has come.

with the mod off the xbox cant see the f drive my c and e drive are default!

and as for mod chips being dead come back in 3 weeks and say that i think ms would have worked very very hard on this new dash update

What is your point, warbeast?  Yes.  If the mod is off, the mod is off.  But the point of this thread was that somebody who most likely owns a few crates of mod chips was trying to say that the dash board exploit was living on borrowed time which didn't make a whole lot of sense.
