Now that everyone can "hack" his xbox without a modchip i think they'll find a way to get who got an evox board installed..maybe they could just check if there are new files on your hardisk..easy..and u are banned! I bought a second xbox to hack it. The first is for Xbox Live..can't "live" without it in any means..ehheeh biggrin.gif

have we gone back in time!

in the old days when we didnt have phoenix or pogo pin lpc mods there was a little chip called enigmah had 29 solder points  every one loved it until live came out because it booted to xboxdash.xbe not evoxdash.xbe this ment you had to rename you evoxdash to xboxdash and xboxdash to msdash it worked ok untill live came out then when the first dash update hit the xbox loads of people got there xbox c drives messt up as the update would update the xboxdash which was evoxdash this was not ms trying to stop mods it only happed cos people renamed files in the c drive so far all ms has done is bios checks and i think as long as you dont rename files in the c drive your be ok we went though all this what will ms do thing months ago lets not start it up again smile.gif

QUOTE (Atreyu @ Aug 1 2003, 06:37 AM)
If I hard boot a game, (ie press eject, insert original game disc, before it loads phoneix) and it boots the game without loading phoneix at all. am i still able to play on LIVE without getting banned?

This is one of the questions that has yet to be answered properly.

From my understanding it seems clear that if you put an original DVD game in the drive when the box is turned on then *all* of the Font + Phoenix code will -not- be executed.. so your running from your original BIOS; so far so good.

So your clear for the moment .. now, the question is does XBLive do any further testing as some have rightly/wrongly suggested by scanning your C: folder? If you take a look at your xboxdash.xbe it should be the *original* dashboard (you more than likely have a 'patched' version named "newdash.xbe" for booting into from evox) .. so if XBLive does any testing its going to find that you have a) an *original* BIOS loaded that came with your XBox and b) a *proper* xboxdash.xbe [for live] ...

Conclusion .. I would presume XBLive would work without any probelms.. and stories that have been going around are either based on "mod-chip" experiences and/or shadowed (Phoenix) BIOS's being in memory.

bump this shit!

come on people can we get some real answers? You have a non-pirated game, booting from your disc drive. Since the hack isn;t executed there is no problem right?

This is a question that really needs to be answered...

Do you want the question answered? Ask MS. I'm serious. Nobody here can give you the answer knowing that it is 100% correct. MS can change their 'routines' for finding hacks/modded boxes at anytime and may search for other things that they are not currently doing. It is impossible to predict what they will do in the future. The safest and foolproof method of playing Live is to actually own 2 Xbox's, one for hacking, one for Live; it really is your safest option. Better to be safe then sorry, right?

If i'm wrong, tell me/flame me/whatever. Thanks.

well it has pretty much been declared safe to play with a disabled mod-chip, although it IS POSSIBLE for MS to simply check for a bigger HD and ban any modded boxes. so of course this question COULD be answered, it already has for one type of exploit.

basically, what I'm hearing is no-one has actually tested this, so all we get is a bunch of guessing. I have yet to hear a single person say, yes I've been banned from XBL when I booted from a non-pirated disc.

since we knopw that disbabled mod-chips do not get banned, all we need to find out is whether a booted game is the same as a disabled mod-chip.

when a game is booted the hack is not run at all, right?

If that's the case, then what is the difference between someone with their mod-chip turned off, and someone with the font hack who booted a game?

and please don't mention files, or harddrive space, because it seems obvious that at this point in time MS is checking neither of these, or at least they're not doing anything about it. And if they REALLY wanted to they could ban all types of exploits, including mod-chips, so please no more "what if's" or "MS could do..."

I couldn't agree more.

I just can't see there being a problem at-all if you boot from an original game..  your basically using your XB as you did before you had any of the "exploits" installed.

The only way MS can tell is if they scan the drive.. and this kind of test is not the best way forward for them as the potential is there to run into problems in the future; providing they do the general things such as BIOS+dashboard and you pass both of those tests then lets presume everything is okay.

I dare say there are a lot of people who are happily playing XBLive on exploited systems.. but fearful of saying anything incase M$ gets on their case.  wink.gif

I can understand how you feel, but what if's are what keep things moving.

If we don't try to plan for the worst NOW, even if they are not yet doing it, well have down time later.

Trust me, I have been looking into hacks on some other devices that get TV for some time... (Not anymore... got some nasty letters!) and the best practice is... PLAN AHEAD... Sure it works now, but the day it doesn't, your banned! Don't screw with this stuff. Look for an alternative option.

I think I may have found one for anyone with 007/MA, but we'll see!

Yea.  For the ones who just want a cut and dry answer, it seems that xbl will work just fine if you boot a DVD when running an exploit.  That answer may be good enough for some but for some like me, it's not the question I ask.  I ask "Will it always work."  Since obviously nobody can answer that, I chose to use a retail drive.  I emagine that when there's one more price cut on the xbox to $149, I may reconsider that policy and consider it a risk worth taking.  But obviously, everybody has to use their own judgement and decide for themselves if MS's tactics will change.  Wheather I had a modchip or an exploit on my xbox, it simply wouldn't matter.  A 4th grader could write code to check for the existance of evox.ini.  I guess in a way, it's like picking up a gorgeous girl for a date when her dad is a crazy man with a houseful of weapons and he does not like you and says to stay away from his daughter.  lol  (Ok, I'd do that.)
