You can also try setting the drive to Master with slave presents.
That helps somtimes with some drives.

Problems Upgrading Hd....

I ran into the same problem and realized the following:

The "lock code" that is necessary for each drive is created differently for each individual drive...so if you simply try to lock your new drive with the exact txt code from your e:backup folder it will not work!  That code is generated by the XBOX using the eeprom.bin file (in your e:backup) for use with your original hard drive.

The "Liveinfo" utility works like a charm to tell you what your "new" lock code should be for your new drive!

Assuming your drive is partitioned correctly and the problem does reside with just locking it with the correct code...do the following.

1)  Download "liveinfo.exe", "hdlock.zip", "atapwd.exe"
2)  Extract the "hdlock.zip" and "atapwd.exe" utilities to a bootable floppy.
3)  Attach your new drive to a Windows 2000/XP system as a primary or secondary master.
4)  Boot to your MS DOS startup disk and launch  "atapwd.exe"
5)  Select your "new" drive and view its status under "SELFXV".
6)  If the drive is unlocked, the "S" will have a "plus" sign under it and all other letters will have a "minus" sign (Proceed to step 7).  If the drive is locked, "plus" signs will be present under the "E" and/or "L".  At this point hit "Esc" and run the "unlockhd.exe" command and enter the code you originally locked the drive with.  Always return to "atapwd.exe" to view its current status.  After you have unlocked it (no minus sign under the "L").  Run "hddisable.exe" so that the drive will not auto lock after you reboot (no minus sign under the "E").  Overall your goal is to reset the drive so that the "S" under "SELFVX" in "atapwd.exe" is the only "plus" sign.
7)  Remove your bootable floppy and boot to Windows 2000/XP.
8)  Once Windows has detected your "new" drive, launch "liveinfo.exe".  Select "load EEPROM".
9)  Browse to the location of the "eeprom.bin" file that you had archived from your XBOX's e:backup directory.
10) In the lower pane of liveinfo be sure to select the correct IDE device.  You will notice that a new "calculated password" is generated (new and different from the one stored as a txt file in your e:backup folder).
11) Take a screenshot or write down this new calculated password.  BE EXACT (do not worry about ending zeros)
12) Shutdown and reboot to your MS DOS Startup disk.
13) Launch a:hdlock.exe.  Select your "new" drive and enter the "calculated password" you just got from Liveinfo!  You are done!
14)  Shutdown, verify that the jumper on your "new" drive is set to "CS" and drop that sucker into your XBOX!

Assuming your partitions are set correctly and your "C" and "E" drives are set...you should be golden!!

Good luck...MattyD
