U don't need to see the Xbox HDD in "My Computer" (and u should not either).

This works fine for my Xbox v1.0:

1. Turn on the Xbox with a game inserted.
2. Go to a menu with no animations and turn off all sounds in the option menu (I used Desert Storm Conflict).
3. Boot the PC to Windows (I got XP SP1).
4. Insert your IDE cable from the PC into your Xbox very fast (I used the secondary master IDE channel with no others components attached).
5. Go to the Device Manager and "Scan for hardware changes" (right click) until u get the Xbox HDD listed under Disk Drives.
6. Run HDD Driver

The pause/break, wait for 10 min. stuff isn't necessary.

Hope this could be of any use.

Everyone who keeps posting questions like 'HDD Wont work for me' or 'XP wont detect the HDD' or any other HDD Swap related question, I have to UNFORTUNATLY say that it isnt likely that either I or any other member will be able to help.  This is becuse each PC (yes it seems to be the PC which causes variations) seems to respond to the Xbox in a completely different way.

I myself have tried using my xbox on 3 different PC's (HDD Swap this is) and each time I have gotten a different result.  One PC I could not even manage to get it to pick up at all after a lot of attempts so I do understand your frustrations.

Cheers

Try booting it up a few times.  You might just have a boot problem like I do.

When you backup and xbox drive with hdd_driver , can you restore your xbox to it's previous factore state anytime ?  After you installed the phoenix loader , or messed up your xbox by deleting some default files?
Is it easy to reinstall the backup on your xbox ?

Maybe the xbox HD won't stop spinning when you can't boot the xbox anymore ?

Well excellent... I am completely screwed. I followed the guide and yet I have a machine capable of doing absolutely nothing. The XBox stuff comes up when I boot, then I get the phoenix, then I get blackness. Pure unadulterated blackness with the ability to do: nothing. A. what could I have done wrong, B. what do I need to do to fix it? I'm sure I'mg onna need to do the hot-swap with my pc again, right?

will it boot the game if it's turned on with it in?
and AGAIN make sure you have filled in the eeprom keys and rc4 and ALSO..if you've edited the xboxrom.bin with xbtool too save it as a debug..not BFM..the same thing happened when i tried booting from BFM..re-saving the origional as a debug bios through xbtool worked for me..it treats it like any other modded xbox.

Yeah... it will boot a game if I put it in... but I have no way of getting into the box other than the hdswap. Can I edit the dash with XVI32 and change everything back to XTF, move the dash back into the main dir rename it default.xbe and have a working evox again? This way I can start the phoenix tutorial again from scratch adding the steps you just told me...? I also have no idea where to get the eeprom and rc4 values... guess I'm not looking hard enough?

Hey i installed the phoenix loader with the EVOX dashboard 3 days ago, and since then i have brought it to my friend's place, returned home, and didnt bother plugging it in, the next morning i went to play halo and the xbox brings up the big XBOX logo, then it restarts and does the same thing. im pretty sure its a problem with the clock, but the first time this happened, i just unplugged it, plugged it back in, turned it on and it worked. last night my brother left it unplugged and so it kept restarting again. i tried unplugging, then plugging it back in but it aint doin $#!^. it just keeps restarting......it wont start any games that i put in the drive, ive tried putting them in with the power on, and off, ive tried FTPing it, but it wont go to the evox dashboard so i cant access it............just wondering if anyone had the same problem, or if anyone knows a way to fix it.

Should i take out the HDD and plug it into my computer, then re-install the loader that way?

PLZ i need some help

i guess im screwed....ive got a 300$ machine that is now a F***n paperwieght. I guess you can imagine how angry i am....

it my own fault for trying it, but:

alcoholfueled, i think you should have had a warning at the beggining of the tutuorial:

"Warning your xbox may turn into a 40 pound retarted lump that makes a VRRRRROOOMING noise, and raises your electricity bill"

THX!

Tip to anyone who reads this DO NOT PUT THE LOADER ON UR XBOX

But thank you A.F. for taking time to put the tutorial on here, it must have taken a while
