what this tutorial forgot to point out is that you need to use hdunlock twice before it works. only then can you use hddisable to disable your HD. another option is use unlockX which does both these things in the same step.

I have never run hdunlock two times in a row. why would you do this if ATAPWD says '-' for L

blink.gif yes it appears that I was reading the little lable on the maxtor hard drive upside down or backwards or how every you want to put it.

you think I would have noticed this since the tutorial clearly says

good.. put in the replacement drive.. remember we used hddprepar?.. lol.. this is gonna fool HDD_Driver into thinking it's the xbox HDD again... well replace the xbox OEM HDD with this one.. with the same jumper settings...set it on master... go to device manager and refresh the devices... until you see the new drive.

and it kept on popping up as secondary slave in the bios and it kept on showing in hdunlock and hdlock and hddisable as item #4. grr.gif

so I took it off of the jumpered slave... (which would be conflicting with the xbox CDROM) and put it on master and BOOM booted right up.

I used winhex to make the backup of the xbox HD and then retore it to the new drive.

I bet the HDDriver backup and restore would work but it would require the hex editing step of the new drive at 0x600 adding 'BRFR' on the right

SO it works.  thanks to all that bothered to read. I will try and help out with the other error 07s

Addendum: For those of you following this thread you will want to format your new space.
All that needs to be formated is F parition.

see URLS below (not sure how to do backslashes in forums)

here are the urls with pictures and reasurance.

good to hear man.

i spent 2 days bangin my head against the wall cause i didn't know to unlock my harddrive twice before trying to disable it. mine's a maxtor 120gb, so i guess it depends on the HD.

this is a quote from the HDD_DRiver nfo "The images the app creates are identical to what you can get with Winhex, so if you've already imaged the drive with that, you should be ok."

I used winhex to open my bin file, used that as a clone and it worked fine for me. are you sure you selected SHow All Files? I used version 9.sumthin
